We are seeking an experienced Senior Property Accountant to oversee the accounting function for a diverse commercial real estate portfolio while leading a small accounting team. This is a fully remote position for someone who is highly organized, detail-oriented, and enjoys both hands-on accounting and mentoring others.
Position Summary
The Senior Property Accountant is responsible for the accuracy and timeliness of all property accounting functions, monthly financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and annual reconciliations. This position supervises three part-time accounting staff members and works closely with all team members to ensure exceptional financial reporting and client service.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and review monthly financial statements for a portfolio of commercial properties
- Perform monthly bank reconciliations and ensure timely resolution of reconciling items
- Prepare and post adjusting journal entries
- Review general ledger activity and maintain accurate financial records
- Prepare annual operating budgets and periodic financial forecasts
- Complete annual Common Area Maintenance (CAM) reconciliations
- Supervise, train, and support three part-time accounting staff members
- Ensure compliance with accounting policies, internal controls, and reporting deadlines
- Approve one-off property expenses
- Assist with year-end preparation and disbursement of 1099s to vendors
- Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and efficiencies
Qualifications
Required
- 3+ years of commercial property accounting experience
- Strong knowledge of commercial real estate accounting principles
- Experience preparing monthly financial statements
- Proficiency in Yardi Voyager Commercial (required)
- Microsoft Excel skills
- Experience with CAM reconciliations, budgeting, and forecasting
- Excellent organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to prioritize multiple deadlines while maintaining accuracy
