Production Manager
Responsible for coordinating and overseeing daily manufacturing operations to ensure production goals, quality standards, operational efficiency, and customer delivery commitments are achieved. This position serves as a hands-on working leader who directs production employees, provides coaching, training, and support, monitors workflow, improves processes, and assists with production activities as needed.
The ideal candidate is organized, dependable, results-driven, and capable of leading by example while maintaining a safe, productive, and positive manufacturing environment. Experience managing production teams, driving continuous improvement, increasing efficiency, and maintaining quality standards is essential.
Production Manager Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesProduction Operations
- Coordinate daily production activities and assign work to team members.
- Monitor workflow and ensure jobs are completed according to schedule and customer deadlines.
- Communicate production priorities, schedules, and delivery expectations to employees.
- Identify and resolve production bottlenecks, workflow issues, and manufacturing delays.
- Ensure production targets, quality standards, labor efficiency, and delivery commitments are achieved.
- Monitor production capacity and allocate labor resources effectively.
- Collaborate with purchasing, inventory, engineering, and shipping departments to ensure smooth production flow.
Team Supervision
- Lead, supervise, train, coach, and mentor production employees.
- Monitor employee attendance, productivity, performance, and accountability.
- Assist with interviewing, onboarding, and training new hires.
- Promote accountability, teamwork, and adherence to company policies and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Conduct performance coaching and provide feedback to management regarding employee development.
Quality Assurance
- Ensure products meet company quality standards, customer specifications, and manufacturing requirements.
- Perform quality inspections throughout the production process.
- Identify defects, root causes, rework requirements, and opportunities for process improvement.
- Assist in implementing corrective and preventative actions (CAPA) to improve quality and efficiency.
- Promote a culture of quality, accuracy, and continuous improvement.
Safety and Housekeeping
- Promote a safe work environment and enforce OSHA safety procedures and company policies.
- Ensure employees properly use tools, equipment, machinery, and personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient production facility using 5S and lean manufacturing principles.
- Report safety concerns, incidents, and equipment issues to management.
Production Support
- Assist with production activities as needed, including assembly, fabrication, CNC machining, industrial sewing, packaging, shipping, and material handling.
- Help troubleshoot equipment, machinery, and production issues to minimize downtime.
- Coordinate with purchasing, inventory, warehouse, and shipping personnel to maintain production flow.
- Assist with inventory counts, cycle counts, material planning, and inventory management.
Continuous Improvement
- Recommend process improvements to increase productivity, improve throughput, reduce waste, and lower production costs.
- Develop and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) and best practices.
- Support Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, Kaizen, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Track, analyze, and communicate key production metrics and KPIs.
- Identify opportunities to improve labor utilization, efficiency, and overall manufacturing performance.
QualificationsRequired
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- 2+ years of manufacturing leadership, production supervision, fabrication, assembly, or manufacturing operations experience.
- Previous leadership, lead, supervisor, production manager, manufacturing supervisor, shop supervisor, or operations management experience.
- Strong leadership, organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to read and interpret work orders, blueprints, technical drawings, and production schedules.
- Basic computer skills including Microsoft Office, ERP systems, inventory software, and production tracking systems.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Preferred
- Experience in CNC manufacturing, machining, industrial sewing, carpentry, welding, fabrication, custom manufacturing, or industrial production.
- Forklift certification.
- Experience with ERP, MRP, inventory management, or warehouse management systems.
- Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, Kaizen, or continuous improvement experience.
