Position Overview:
With minimal supervision supports environmental health and workplace safety programs to maintain and promote a healthy and safe environment for staff, volunteers, patients and visitors that will reduce the financial risks associated with injuries and illnesses. Inspects and surveys areas and activities to minimize potential risks and investigates incidents. Leads in the development, implementation and maintenance of safety policies and procedures, and provides education and/or training to help staff understand and comply with the requirements of the environmental health & workplace safety programs.

JOB ACCOUNTABILITIES:
INSPECTIONS AND COMPLIANCE
- Serves as the point-of-contact for on-site inspections and/or accreditation and licensing surveys, providing information as requested.
- Assists entity and/or department with citations, initiating appeals process when warranted.

- Reviews compliance/inspection reports, recommends actions to close or address gaps, and monitors progress toward full compliance.
- Completes mandatory reporting requirements, submitting reports timely.
PROGRAM SUPPORT
- Reviews and analyzes legislative and regulatory changes, evaluates implications and impacts, and recommends policy changes.
- Chairs and/or participates on various health and safety-related committees and task forces, collaborating with leadership and members in reviewing and updating the Hazardous Materials and Waste Program and presenting reports.
- Coordinates the review of audits, inspections, citations, and selected incidents, collaborating with appropriate committees and department to address issues and deficiencies.
- Represent and/or participates on the organization/entity in community task forces to promote safe disposal and handling of hazardous waste/materials.
- May represent the organization/entity on community task forces convened to prepare and promote disaster/emergency management activities.
- May work with departments on issues related to facility access and/or compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act.
EDUCATION:
Equivalent experience will be accepted in lieu of the required degree or diploma.
Bachelor's: Environmental Health/Sciences, Public Safety, Occupational Health & Safety, Industrial Safety or related field
TYPICAL EXPERIENCE:
8 years of recent relevant experience
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:
Knowledge of applicable safety regulations, protocols, and procedures
Knowledge of legislative and regulatory protocols and requirements relating to workplace safety and injury prevention such as Title 22, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Cal-OSHA, The Joint Commission (TJC), Dept of Health, etc.
Understands hospital and/or ambulatory healthcare operations. Prior healthcare experience preferred.
Ability to define issues, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
Demonstrates a proactive approach in identifying and addressing issues and concerns.
Collaboration skills to facilitate open sharing of information and cooperation with various stakeholders to problem solve and achieve desired results/outcome.
Displays a customer service focus in all decisions and actions.
Ability to communicate through verbal and written means, and to present information to a variety of audiences.
Ability to create and translate data into reports and presentations for the appropriate audience.
Organizational skills to effectively manage and/or re-prioritize activities and projects to meet deadlines while maintaining a high degree of responsiveness.
Ability to interact and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the performance of required duties.

Pay Range is $119,995.20 to $179,982.40 / annual salary
The compensation range may vary based on the geographic location where the position is filled. Total compensation considers multiple factors, including, but not limited to a candidate’s experience, education, skills, licensure, certifications, departmental equity, training, and organizational needs. Base pay is only one component of Sutter Health’s comprehensive total rewards program. Eligible positions also include a comprehensive benefits package.
