We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Inpatient Coding Specialist to join our healthcare team. Duties
- Review inpatient medical records thoroughly to assign appropriate ICD-9, ICD-10, CPT (Current Procedural Terminology), and DRG (Diagnosis-Related Group) codes.
- Ensure accurate coding of diagnoses, procedures, and services based on detailed documentation within Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems.
- Collaborate with healthcare providers to clarify documentation when necessary to improve code accuracy and compliance.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of coding guidelines, regulations, and industry best practices to ensure adherence to federal and state requirements.
- Prepare detailed reports on coding activities, identify discrepancies, and implement corrective actions as needed.
- Support medical billing and collections processes by providing precise coded data that facilitates timely reimbursement.
- Stay informed about changes in ICD coding systems, CPT updates, and DRG classifications to ensure ongoing accuracy in coding assignments.
Qualifications
- Proven experience in inpatient medical coding with a strong understanding of ICD-9, ICD-10, CPT coding systems, and DRG classification.
- Familiarity with medical terminology, medical records management, and healthcare documentation standards.
- Prior experience working with EMR or EHR systems for coding and record review purposes.
- Knowledge of medical billing processes and medical collection procedures is preferred.
- Excellent attention to detail with the ability to interpret complex clinical information accurately.
- Strong communication skills for collaborating effectively with healthcare providers and billing teams.
- Certification in Medical Coding (such as CPC or CCS) is highly desirable; ongoing education in ICD coding updates is a plus.
