Job description
Berkeley Nucleonics - Assistant Product Manager Internship, Nuclear and Radiation Detection
Job description:
Berkeley Nucleonics Corporation is an established test and measurement company in San Rafael, CA, building instrumentation since 1963. We are looking for a highly motivated, detail oriented, and energetic Assistant Product Manager Intern to support our nuclear spectroscopy and radiation detection line: isotope identification instruments, scintillation detectors, and custom detector assemblies built for national labs, universities, defense programs, and radiation safety organizations.
This is a hands-on seat with the product manager and support / sales teams. Our detector business runs on a long supply chain and a deep archive of past builds, and most of the work is turning that archive into fast, defensible answers for customers. You will see quotes, drawings, purchase orders, and delivery schedules from the inside, and you will own pieces of the process from day one.
Job duties include but are not limited to
● Support budgetary and formal quoting for custom detector assemblies: pull comparable past builds, assemble configuration and material history, and help build a quote package the customer can budget against with confidence.
● Maintain the detector drawing and configuration library, and match incoming customer requirements to the closest existing build so we quote from history instead of from scratch.
● Track open orders against promised ship dates, flag slippage early, and prepare the agenda and follow-up notes for recurring calls with our European detector partner.
● Support incoming inspection and functional checks on detectors and spectroscopy instruments, including source handling under our radiation safety procedures, and document results for the customer file.
● Build and maintain the account and program map for the nuclear line: which labs, which groups, which programs, which people, and what they bought last. Keep the CRM reliable.
● Support technical inquiries from customers and from our network of independent sales representatives, and route the hard ones to engineering with the context already assembled.
● Understand customer needs and help develop solutions with engineers across BNC detector hardware and analysis software.
● Prepare AI assisted proposals, application notes, comparison tables, and short technical videos, and support regional representatives through order completion.
● Develop BNC's presence as a thought leader and solution provider across government, academia, and the private sector.
● Support competitive analysis, product variation documentation, version control, webinars, and regional events.
Preferred qualifications
● Bachelor's degree in Physics, Nuclear Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent preferred. We will consider an electronics technician certificate or relevant hands-on experience.
● Coursework or lab time in radiation detection is a strong plus: gamma spectroscopy, multichannel analyzers, photomultiplier and SiPM readout, or scintillator materials such as NaI(Tl), LaBr3, CeBr3, LYSO, CLLBC, and GAGG.
● Comfort with spreadsheets and data. You will be reconciling quotes, purchase orders, and delivery dates across several systems, and small errors matter.
● Able to correspond well on phone, email or in person with customers, engineers, and supply chain. Travel required.
● Ability to prioritize and handle multiple projects in a team environment as well as independently, and to interact effectively with a positive attitude.
● Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
● Strong working AI familiarity. Please send an example of something you built with it.
● US citizen (preferred).
