Duties
- Provide real-time interpretation for medical consultations, procedures, and administrative interactions using both over-the-phone and video remote interpretation platforms.
- Translate medical terminology accurately to support effective communication between healthcare professionals and Spanish-speaking patients.
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) regulations by safeguarding patient confidentiality during all interpretation activities.
- Assist in translating medical records, clinical documentation, and social work reports to facilitate seamless information exchange.
- Support cross-cultural communication by applying clinical cultural competency standards and understanding diverse patient backgrounds.
- Review medical documentation for accuracy, completeness, and adherence to clinical ethical guidelines and confidentiality policies.
- Collaborate with healthcare teams to uphold professional ethics, maintain clinical confidentiality policies, and deliver exceptional customer service in high-pressure environments such as hospitals or clinics.
Experience
- Proven experience in medical interpretation or translation within healthcare settings, including hospitals or clinics.
- Multilingual proficiency in English and Spanish; additional language skills such as American Sign Language are a plus.
- Demonstrated ability to utilize video remote interpretation (VRI) technology effectively.
- Strong understanding of medical terminology, translating complex concepts with clarity and precision.
- Knowledge of HIPAA compliance requirements, clinical ethical guidelines, and social work practices related to patient confidentiality.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to navigate cross-cultural interactions confidently.
- Experience working with child protective services, hospital records, or social work documentation is highly desirable.
