The Equine Care Coordinator ensures the daily health, safety, and well-being of Blue Sky Acres’ horses. This is a part-time position and reports to the Program Director.
Equine Care Coordinator Job Duties
● Oversee daily feeding, watering, and turnout routines according to established schedules.
● Ensure all stalls, paddocks, and feeding areas remain safe and well-maintained.
● Ensure horses are groomed regularly and monitor for signs of injury, illness, or discomfort.
● Track each horse’s weight, diet, supplements, and body condition.
● Observe horses for changes in behavior, appetite, or soundness, and report concerns promptly to the Program Director.
● Schedule and coordinate appointments with veterinarians and farriers.
● Ensure that prescribed medications, treatments, and preventive care (e.g., deworming, vaccinations) are administered as directed.
● Maintain health records in the Horse Health Log.
● Train and oversee volunteers assisting with feeding, grooming, and barn chores.
● Communicate clearly with volunteers to ensure safety and consistency in care routines.
● Provide ongoing instruction in proper handling and safety around horses.
● Monitor feed, hay, and bedding inventory; communicate supply needs proactively.
● Keep tack, feed, and medical supplies organized and clean.
● Ensure equipment used for horse care (halters, lead ropes, buckets, etc.) remains in good working condition.
● Communicate regularly with staff and volunteers about horse condition, care updates, and facility needs.
● Communicate with the feeding team and ensure that volunteer shifts are covered.
Requirements
● Must be 21 years of age or older and have own transportation
● Availability on weekdays and some weekends
● Minimum 3 years of hands-on horse care experience
● Strong understanding of equine nutrition, basic health care, and safe handling practices
● Ability to recognize signs of illness, lameness, and behavioral changes
● Excellent communication and record-keeping skills
● Comfortable leading and instructing volunteers of varied experience levels
● Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, work outdoors in various weather conditions, and perform
physical labor
● Calm, observant, and attentive to detail
● Strong teamwork and communication skills

Pay: $15.00 per hour
