We are seeking a dedicated, patient, and dependable Program Aide and an experienced, organized Site Director to support our Before and After School Program at Hawthorne Elementary School in Baltimore County, Maryland. This position involves working closely with school-age children, including students with autism and behavioral challenges, in a structured and supportive environment.
This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who is passionate about working with children and making a positive impact during critical transition times of the school day.
Location: Middle River, MD
Hours of operation: Monday-Friday 7:00 a.m. to 8:45 a.m./ return 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Hours may vary depending upon holidays and inclement weather.
Responsibilities of Program Aide
- Support students in the before- and after-care program
- Work with children diagnosed with autism and behavioral challenges
- Implement positive behavior strategies, redirection, and structure
- Assist with daily routines and transitions
- Maintain a safe, calm, and nurturing environment
- Collaborate with site leadership and follow individual behavior plans
- Adhere to Learn-N-Play policies and MSDE guidelines
Responsibilities of the Site Director
- Oversee daily operations of the before and after-care program
- Supervise, support, and schedule program aides and staff
- Ensure MSDE-compliant child/staff ratios and health and safety procedures at all times
- Manage attendance, rosters, and family communication through our program systems
- Implement structured curriculum and enrichment activities
- Work with children diagnosed with autism and behavioral challenges; follow individual behavior plans
- Serve as the main point of contact for parents, school staff, and Learn-N-Play leadership
- Maintain a safe, calm, and nurturing environment
- Adhere to Learn-N-Play policies and MSDE guidelines
· Qualifications:
- Must be 18 years or older
- Experience working with children required
- Experience with autism and behavior management strongly preferred
- Must be reliable, punctual, and responsible
- Ability to remain calm, patient, and consistent
- Willing to participate in ongoing training
- Strong verbal communication skills
- Ability to evaluate situations and problem-solve effectively
- Must follow all health and safety procedures
Training Requirements (must have or be willing to obtain):
- 90 hours in School-Age or Early Childhood Education (or related degree)
- CPR & First Aid
- Basic Health & Safety Training
- Medication Administration Training (if applicable)
Additional Requirements
✔ Must pass a criminal background check
✔ Must work in person
✔ Must adhere to program policies and procedures
Hours Per Week
- 25–39 hours (School-Year Program)
- Additional hours may be available during the Summer Program
