WHO WE ARE
Warriors Heart is a Joint Commission-accredited, DBHDS-licensed residential treatment center dedicated exclusively to veterans, active-duty military, and first responders. We exist because those who serve others often struggle to ask for help themselves. Our multidisciplinary team delivers evidence-informed, trauma-sensitive addiction and co-occurring disorder treatment in a community built on warrior culture, brotherhood and sisterhood, and a shared commitment to recovery.
THE ROLE
We are seeking a skilled, mission-driven SUD Counselor to join our clinical team. In this role, you will carry an active caseload of warriors in residential treatment, providing individual counseling, co-facilitating group programming, collaborating with a tight-knit interdisciplinary team, and guiding clients through treatment from intake to discharge. You will work in a structured residential setting where no two days are the same and your clinical skills genuinely matter.
This position requires scheduling flexibility; to include evening, and one weekend day availability consistent with our program schedule and client census.
Duties to Include but not limited to:
- Carry an individual caseload and provide regular one-on-one counseling sessions focused on substance use, recovery, and related challenges.
- Complete Biopsychosocial Assessments within 24 hours of client intake.
- Develop and maintain individualized Treatment Plans and Discharge Plans within 5 days of assignment; update plans as the client progresses through treatment.
- Facilitate group sessions including 12 step, relapse prevention, psychoeducation, life skills, and process groups.
- Document all clinical interactions, notes, assessments, and plans in our electronic health record within established timeframes.
- Attend and actively contribute to weekly multidisciplinary Treatment Team meetings.
- Coordinate care with the client's Dual Diagnosis Therapist, Nurse Practitioner, and Psychiatrist.
- Communicate with family members and loved ones (with appropriate releases) and track all family contact.
- Build and finalize an individualized Aftercare Plan no later than five days prior to discharge.
- Complete Discharge Summaries within 48 hours of client departure.
- Uphold Warriors Heart's documentation compliance standards, confidentiality policies, and Joint Commission accreditation requirements.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR:
- CSAC licensure (or active eligibility) with the Commonwealth of Virginia, OR board recognized CSAC-Supervisee.
- Current licensure or certification in good standing with the Commonwealth of Virginia.
- Valid driver's license; current CPR and First Aid certification; TB skin test clearance.
- Ability to pass an annual background clearance and random drug and alcohol screenings.
- Strong clinical writing skills and proficiency with electronic health records and standard office software.
