Gym Manager — Sender One LAX
Location: Los Angeles, CA 90045 (on-site) Department: Operations | Reports to: Director of Operations Position Type: Full-Time, Salaried, Exempt Compensation: $72,000 – $84,000/year + performance-based bonuses
Overview
The Gym Manager leads all aspects of Sender One LAX — its people, its community, and its financial performance. As the senior leader on-site, you develop and coach a team of department managers, ensure every visitor, guest, and member has an outstanding experience, and embody Sender One's core values in every decision you make.
This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who loves being on the floor, building relationships with staff and members, and running a gym like a business — with full ownership of its results.
What You'll Do
Lead People & Culture
- Build and sustain a staff and community culture that reflects Sender One's core values, purpose, and brand promise
- Motivate, inspire, and develop gym staff through a culture of accountability
- Lead, manage, and hold all direct reports accountable to clear expectations
- Coach and mentor department managers, removing obstacles so their teams can succeed
- Manage hiring and training needs for the gym
- Conduct timely staff check-ins and reviews, including 60-day, monthly, annual, and staff-requested check-ins
Own Operations & Financial Performance
- Take full ownership of the gym's operational and financial performance across all departments: Customer Experience, Programs, Groups & Parties, Yoga & Fitness, Retail & Marketing, Route Setting, Risk & Safety, Facilities, Billing, and Human Resources
- Execute against an annual budget with defined revenue, expense, and profit targets
- Understand the gym's functions, financials, and offerings in depth, and use data to guide decisions
- Integrate all company departments into one cohesive gym operation
Ensure Safety & Risk Management
- Ensure proper risk management practices are followed in all areas of the facility
- Partner with the Risk & Safety team and Facilities Managers to keep the gym in compliance with all Sender One safety guidelines
Grow the Community
- Lead local community outreach efforts in coordination with the marketing team
- Maintain a visible, approachable presence with staff, members, and program participants
Collaborate & Develop
- Lead the weekly gym operations meeting to align department managers on company changes, priorities, and goals
- Complete goals on a development plan set by the Director of Operations and/or Vice President of Operations

Qualifications
Required
- 3+ years of leadership experience managing teams, preferably in a multi-department or customer-facing environment
- Experience managing budgets, financials, and KPIs
- Experience in the climbing, fitness, or recreation industry
- Top rope and lead belay experience (or ability to certify within 90 days of hire)
- Experience coaching, instructing, and interviewing
- Proficiency with Google Workspace (Gmail, Sheets, Docs, Drive)
Preferred
- Experience with Rock Gym Pro reporting and data handling
- Familiarity with Paycom and Basecamp
- Experience coaching or instructing youth programs
Time Commitment & Schedule Expectations
- Full-time, minimum 40 hours per week (Sunday–Saturday)
- Weekend availability required for special events, training, and shadow shifts
- Occasional morning, evening, or alternate shifts based on business and operational needs
- Required attendance at the Weekly Manager's meeting, Monthly Manager's meeting, and mandatory All-Staff meetings
