Duties
- Safely operate commercial vehicles with manual transmission across designated routes, following all traffic laws and safety protocols
- Load and unload freight using appropriate equipment such as forklifts or roll-off trucks, ensuring proper handling of various cargo types including refrigerated goods and flatbed loads
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of trucks and trailers to identify maintenance needs or safety issues
- Manage route driving efficiently to meet delivery schedules while maintaining fuel efficiency and safety standards
- Secure freight properly on flatbeds or within refrigerated trailers to prevent damage during transit
- Communicate effectively with dispatchers regarding delivery status, route changes, or any incidents encountered on the road
- Maintain accurate logs of driving hours, cargo details, and delivery documentation in compliance with DOT regulations
- Availability for overtime, early morning, weekend, and emergency response during storms and other events
- Flexibility for inter-island travel based on operational needs
Experience
- Proven experience as a CDL A Truck Driver with a focus on freight delivery and route driving
- Hands-on experience operating various truck types including tractor-trailers, flatbeds, tankers, refrigerated trailers, dump trucks, and roll-off trucks
- Familiarity with manual transmission trucks and the ability to handle complex loading/unloading procedures
- Prior delivery driver experience preferred, especially involving freight handling and load securing
- Strong communication, reliability, and customer service
- Ability to operate a smart phone and applications
- Ability to operate forklift equipment for loading/unloading when necessary
- Knowledge of safety regulations related to commercial driving and cargo transport
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail in maintaining logs and documentation
- TWIC and Hazmat required
- DBIDS clearance will be applied upon hiring
