Under the guidance of, and reporting to, the Assistant Director of Husbandry Operations, the Assistant Supervisor assists with coordinating the day-to-day care of laboratory animals housed within the facility. This includes assisting with morning meetings with husbandry staff, coordinating with the Executive Director and Assistant Director on staffing needs, and supporting operational priorities. The role focuses on providing high quality service to investigators, supporting the ongoing education and development of husbandry personnel, overseeing facility maintenance needs, and ensuring compliance with all federal, state, local, and institutional regulations and guidelines. The Assistant Supervisor must demonstrate leadership, sound judgment, and professionalism when interacting with the research community and ICM personnel. Assist with coordinating the daily activities of husbandry technicians to ensure adherence to established husbandry and sanitation standards. Candidates must possess solid understanding of biohazard containment and regulatory requirements, and the ability to work effectively in a diverse environment.
Responsibilities
- Assist with coordinating and monitoring the animal husbandry and sanitation duties of husbandry technicians to ensure program and facility compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and guidelines.
- Support the executive director and assistant director in training for new hires, including documentation of training progress for management review.
- Document and communicate performance concerns to management for appropriate follow up with HR in a timely, fair, and consistent manner.
- Review employee timesheets for accuracy and completeness for biweekly payroll processing.
- Provide guidance to facility users in husbandry techniques, operational procedures, and related resources.
- Participate in required weekend supervisory rotation.
- Performs related duties and responsibilities as assigned/requested.
Minimum Qualifications
- AALAS certification is preferred (ALAT, LAT or LATG), training, and experience required.
- Minimum of two years of experience working in a laboratory animal facility.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent combination of education.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
- A commitment to supporting high‑quality research while maintaining full regulatory compliance is essential.
