The Part-time Sociology Instructor will be responsible for teaching all levels of sociology courses to undergraduate students, including college transfer and specific program students.
Classes are offered during the day, afternoon and night and maybe face-to-face or via distance education technology.
Classes will be held on the main campus and at off-campus sites.
This position requires daytime, in-person instruction at partner high school locations within the Forsyth Technical Community College service area, including sites within Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools. The selected candidate must have consistent weekday daytime availability and be able to travel to assigned high school campuses to deliver face-to-face instruction. Flexibility to teach at multiple locations based on program needs is expected
Minimum Qualifications
Required:

Master’s Degree in Sociology or Master’s Degree or higher with at least 18 graduate hours in Sociology. **Note: Degrees and hours must be from a college accredited by a US Dept of Education accepted accrediting agency such as SACSCOC.
Preferred Qualifications
Preferred:
- Successful teaching experience at the community college level.
- Experience with Microsoft Office and/or Google Workspace, spreadsheets, presentation and collaboration apps and software.
- Successful teaching experience in online and hybrid courses or blended courses.
Essential Duties
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Assume responsibility for teaching assignments as designated by the department chairperson and approved by the dean.
- Assume responsibility for maintaining all required College records including attendance and grade reports, roll books, etc.
- Classroom preparation, instruction, grading and record keeping for one to four classes per semester.
- Compile bibliographies of specialized materials or outside reading assignments as applicable.
- Make recommendations to the Department Chair for supplies, equipment, and equipment repairs.
- Construct, administer, and grade examinations.
- Assume responsibility for being familiar with and adhering to all policies of the College.
- Attend specialized training activities that enhance job performance.
- Foster a welcoming environment with colleagues and students.
- Maintain confidentiality and security of sensitive information.
- Pursue continuous improvement in the areas of subject matter expertise; teaching and learning; the use of educational technology and other areas related to the strategic goals of the college.
- Facilitate the learning process by designing and implementing inclusive instructional activities that are appropriate and meaningful and that maximize equitable student outcomes.
