Byers Industrial Services is seeking an Assistant Project Manager to support a large-scale industrial electrical construction project in Chesterfield, VA. We're looking for individuals with hands-on experience in industrial electrical or industrial construction who understand how projects are built from the ground up. Whether you've worked as an Electrician, Foreman, General Foreman, Superintendent, Project Engineer, or Field Coordinator, this role offers a clear path toward advancing your leadership career.
This is a fully onsite position located at an active industrial construction project. Success in this role requires daily collaboration with project managers, field leadership, subcontractors, vendors, and craft personnel to help deliver projects safely, efficiently, and on schedule.
Position Summary
As an Assistant Project Manager, you'll support the planning, coordination, and execution of industrial electrical construction projects from preconstruction through project closeout. You'll serve as the link between field operations and project management, helping ensure work progresses according to schedule, budget, safety, and quality standards.
This role combines office-based project coordination with regular field involvement, making it ideal for someone who enjoys both technical problem-solving and hands-on construction operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist Project Managers and Superintendents with the day-to-day execution of industrial electrical construction projects.
- Coordinate activities with subcontractors, suppliers, vendors, and field crews to maintain project schedules and productivity.
Review and interpret:
- Electrical drawings and blueprints
- One-line diagrams
- Schematics
- Construction drawings and project specifications
- Support project scheduling using Primavera P6 or similar scheduling software.
Prepare and manage:
- Requests for Information (RFIs)
- Submittals
- Change orders
- Purchase orders
- Daily reports and project documentation
- Utilize Procore, Bluebeam, and Microsoft Office to manage documentation, communication, and project workflows.
- Assist with labor tracking, material procurement, budget monitoring, and cost control.
- Conduct routine jobsite walks to monitor progress, verify quality, and support safe work practices.
- Help ensure installations comply with project specifications, applicable codes, and National Electrical Code (NEC) requirements.
- Collaborate with project stakeholders to identify issues, resolve challenges, and keep work moving forward.
Qualifications:
Experience in:
- Industrial Electrical Construction
- Industrial Construction
- Manufacturing, power, or heavy commercial construction environments
- Hands-on field experience supervising or supporting construction operations.
- Working knowledge of National Electrical Code (NEC)
- Industrial electrical systems
- Construction sequencing and field operations
Ability to read and interpret:
- Blueprints
- Electrical schematics
- Control drawings
- Construction documents and specifications
Experience using:
- Procore
- Bluebeam
- Primavera P6 (or similar scheduling software)
- Microsoft Office Suite
- Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced industrial construction environment.
Preferred:
- Experience with estimating or cost management software such as HeavyBid.
- Previous experience supporting large industrial, manufacturing, or process facility construction projects.
- OSHA safety training or other construction safety certifications.
