Job Summary/Objective: The Assistant Director of Career Services provides services to help students explore, share, connect and prepare for life in the professional world. The work of the Career Services Center supports students and graduates in living out Sweet Briar College’s mission to challenge and inspire women, forge ethical leaders with the skill, compassion, and vision to create a more just and sustainable world. In particular, Career Services synergizes with the Leadership Core general education program which is designed for students to investigate and grow their leadership style and skills and apply them in their post-graduate endeavors. The successful candidate will assist the Director of Career Services in the administration of the Career Services Center’s programs and services with respect to the delivery of a comprehensive career development program and provide leadership in the coordination of the internship program.
Position Type/Expected Work Hours: This is a full-time position that will generally work traditional work day hours. Some weekend or evening work may be required for special events; advance notification will be given for these events.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Work directly with students individually, in small groups, and through various workshops and programs designed around student self-assessment, career exploration, workplace readiness, major selection and career development services. Primary focus will be with first-year and sophomore students but will assist other students and alumnae as needed.

Expand and oversee the internship program including the development of the program, support of students, increasing community contacts, creating marketing tools, connecting with SBC faculty and alumnae on opportunities, and serving as the liaison between educational and community resources.
- Assist in the planning, coordination, execution, and evaluation of career services programs and events. Create publicity and social media posts for job and internship opportunities along with career services events. Help produce and manage the e-newsletter.

Provide database support and maintenance for the employer contact list for jobs and internships and the Center’s Google site and Canvas pages. Help coordinate on-site visits for employers and graduate schools.

Assist with assessment data collection, annual reporting, and attendance tracking for career services programs and events.

Provide administrative support to the office and the Director of Career Services. Assist with the supervision of student worker(s) for the office. Responsible for office management including filing, organizing, and maintaining materials in the office, and the career services center library.
Assist with transportation of students to off campus career events and job fairs when necessary.
Work Environment: Office setting, working with students and visitors, computers, files and other materials.
Physical Demands: Standing, bending, and lifting up to 25 pounds.
Travel: Some off-site travel for career services events. Advanced notice will be provided. Must have a valid driver’s license and proof of automotive insurability. Able to secure Sweet Briar College van driver certification.

Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.

1-3 years prior work experience related to student support, advising, and/or counseling.

Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to work individually and as part of a team.

Excellent communication skills, public speaking skills, along with strong writing and editing skills.
- Technical competence with Microsoft Office and Google suite, along with social media platforms such as Facebook and Instagram.

A well-developed understanding and commitment to assisting students from a wide variety of backgrounds with a wide variety of career interests and endeavors.

Ability to maintain confidential information.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in a relevant field.

3-5 years of career counseling and/or higher education experience.

Prior experience with LinkedIn, Canvas, and Canva or other graphic design platforms.

Office management or administrative support experience.

Experience organizing and executing events.

Demonstrated ability to build strong business and community connections.

Knowledge of current employment trends.
The salary range for this position is $42,000.00- $48,000.00 per year. This is commensurate with education and experience and will be determined in accordance with institutional guidelines.
