Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and energetic Section 8 DSS Receptionist to join our team. Responsibilities
- Perform all necessary receptionist and clerical duties required for the operation of the DSS Section 8 Program including, but not limited to, answering telephones, retrieving and returning telephone messages and inquiries from program participants, landlords, caseworkers, and the general public, filing, scheduling appointments for DSS Caseworkers and program participants.
- Assist in investigating all reports of tenant fraud, send termination notices when necessary, and attend informal hearings when requested.
- Maintain tenant records and verify all information third-party when requested.
- Perform special projects as requested.
- Performs other duties as assigned, including work in other functional areas to cover absences or relief, to equalize peak work periods, or to otherwise balance the workload.
Qualifications
- Ability to make complex arithmetical computations.
- Experience with principles and practice of Section 8 Housing Programs.
- Ability to maintain effective working relationships with staff, tenants and general public.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instruction.
- Working knowledge of office procedures and practices.
- Ability to maintain an accurate filing system.
- Considerable ability to maintain adequate record keeping.
- Ability to operate calculators, adding machines, copy machines, fax machines, mailing machines, and desktop word processing computer systems, including the ability to access the Internet and web-based information and data resources.
Education and Training
Possession of a High School Degree or GE, associate degree preferred. Two to four years’ experience in office services and/or project related activities. Must attend Section 8 training and associated HUD workshops as required. Must have and maintain a valid State of Connecticut driver’s license.
Pay: From $20.00 per hour
