JOB TITLE: Camp Program Specialist - Outdoor Adventure
REPORTS TO: Program Director and/or as assigned
FLSA TYPE: Non-Exempt, Hourly
Under the supervision of the Camp Director or assigned supervisor, the Camp Program Specialist is responsible for leading and facilitating a designated camp activity for Outdoor Education. This role provides intentional, developmentally appropriate programming while ensuring the safety, engagement, and positive growth of youth participants.
The Camp Program Specialist serves as a subject-area leader within the camp environment and plays a key role in advancing the YMCA’s mission through high-quality youth development experiences.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (not a complete list):

Plan, organize, and facilitate daily activities within an assigned specialty area (Outdoor Education - fishing, kayaking, hiking, archery).

Select and prepare materials; manage space, flow, and transitions to ensure safe and engaging programming.

Supervise youth participants and maintain active engagement during all program activities.

Foster a positive, inclusive environment that supports youth leadership, creativity, problem-solving, and reflection.

Maintain program areas, equipment, and required documentation in compliance with YMCA and regulatory standards.

Participate in family nights, camp events, staff meetings, and required trainings.

Collaborate with camp leadership and fellow staff to support overall camp operations and participant experience.

Adhere to all organizational policies and procedures regarding the prevention of abuse.

Report any suspected abuse, neglect, or misconduct immediately to the appropriate supervisory staff.

Attend mandatory training on abuse prevention, including recognizing signs of abuse, and reporting requirements.

Performs other duties as assigned.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Required:
-
Must be 18 years of age
-
Must possess oral, auditory, and written communication skills appropriate for teaching and interacting with both children and adults.

Positive role model with strong leadership, conflict resolution and diplomacy skills.

At least 2 years’ experience working with youth ages 5-13.

Must have knowledge of STEAM or Outdoor Education and large/small group activities.

Supervise and facilitate STEAM or Outdoor Education activities for youth ages 5-13.
Preferred:
-
6 months experience with program development and implementation.

One or more years of college in a related field (i.e. recreation, child development, psychology, etc.)
