- Personal care: Assisting with bathing, dressing, grooming, and oral hygiene
- Medication: Administering medication as prescribed by a doctor
- Health monitoring: Monitoring the patient's health and wellbeing, and reporting any changes
- Emotional support: Providing companionship and emotional support, especially for those who feel isolated
- Mobility assistance: Helping the patient move around their home and transporting them when needed
- Household management: Assisting with organization, food preparation, and maintenance
- Recordkeeping: Maintaining records of all treatment and care provided
- Communication: Communicating with doctors and other health care professionals, and maintaining communication with the patient's family
- Safety: Addressing home safety issues, such as installing handrails, raised toilet seats, and smoke and carbon monoxide alarms
Caregivers may also run errands, such as grocery shopping and laundry drop-offs and pickups.
