Certified Clinial Medical Assistant (CCMA) PART-TIME AS NEEDED
JOB DESCRIPTION
Job Title: Certified Medical Assistant
Reports to: Business Manager
Position Summary:
The certified medical assistant is responsible for patient care under the direction of a physician or licensed health care provider. They help patients by providing information, services, and assistance. Other duties include securing medical records; maintaining medical supplies inventory; performing preventive maintenance to keep equipment operating.
Working Conditions:
Room temperature varies, well-lighted work area, and works closely with co-workers. Sometimes busy, hectic, noisy, or stressful with interruptions. Involves frequent telephone contact with patients. Interactions with others are constant and may be interruptive.
Duties and Responsibilities:
This list may not include all of the duties assigned and may be updated intermittently to accommodate miscellaneous duties as assigned.
1. Room patients, obtain vitals, patient history and reason for seeking care.
2. Process telephone messages.
3. Follow prescription refill procedures.
4. Maintain patient records confidentially.
5. Assist the provider with patient education pertaining to their ongoing health care:
· Diet and exercise
· Laboratory and radiology preparation
· Minor surgical procedures
6. Keep exam rooms stocked with adequate medical supplies, and maintain instruments.
7. Triage and process messages from patients and office staff to physicians and providers.
8. Maintain all logs and required checks (i.e., refrigerator temperatures, emergency medications, expired medications, oxygen, cold sterilization fluid change, etc.).
9. Must be able to recognize and respond appropriately to urgent/emergent situations per protocols.
10. Maintain work area, exam rooms, supplies, medications and immunizations.
11. Perform basic triage per specific office protocol procedures.
12. On-Line Certifications: HIPAA, HITECH & Omnibus; Bloodborne Pathogens for Healthcare; and GHS Hazcom.
13. Exercises problem-solving and conflict resolution skills when handling patient complaints; when necessary refers patient complaints to medical assistant supervisor.
14. Must exercise utmost diplomacy and tact to provide excellent customer service for patients; practices confidentiality and privacy protocols in accordance to MedCare policies and HIPAA requirements.
15. Shred patient information to comply with HIPAA requirements.
16. Proper disposal of hazardous wastes according to OSHA requirements.
17. Maintain clean and orderly work stations, patient rooms, and patient bathrooms.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Certified Medical Assistant through Georgia State Department of Health (preferred).
CPR Certification for HealthCare Providers.
Experience: 1-2 years experience in an office environment.
Skills:
1. Medical terminology.
2. Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
3. Knowledge of CPT & ICD-10 coding procedures.
4. Knowledge of medications and injection procedures.
5. Ability to multi-task efficiently and effectively.
6. Must be able to act calmly and effectively in a busy or stressful situation.
7. Ability to communicate effectively in the English language in person, by phone and in writing.
8. Requires adherence to all policies and procedures, including but not limited to standards for safety, attendance, punctuality and personal appearance.
Physical Requirements:
Hearing: Adequate to perform job duties in person and over the telephone. Able to use stethoscope and respond to verbal questions.
Speaking: Must be able to communicate clearly to patients in person and over the telephone.
Vision: Visual acuity adequate to perform job duties, including visual examination of patient and reading information from printed sources and computer screens.
Other: Requires frequent lifting and carrying items weighing up to 30 pounds unassisted, including assisting patients when required. Adequate physical ability including sufficient manual dexterity to perform the requisite health care service, including injections. Requires frequent bending, reaching, repetitive hand movements, standing, walking, squatting and sitting, with some heavy lifting, pushing and pulling exerted regularly throughout a regular work shift. Requires exposure to communicable diseases, bodily fluids, medicinal preparations and other conditions common to a clinic environment.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $17.00 - $19.00 per hour
