Job Summary
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Utility Line Locator to join our dynamic team. In this vital role, you will be responsible for accurately identifying and marking underground utility lines to ensure safe excavation and construction activities. Your expertise will help prevent service disruptions, protect workers, and maintain compliance with safety standards. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work on diverse projects within the energy and utilities sector, utilizing a range of heavy equipment and technical skills to deliver exceptional results.
Responsibilities
- Use specialized equipment and techniques to locate underground utility lines such as water systems, pipelines, electrical cables, fiber optic cables, and high/low voltage lines.
- Mark and document the location of utilities clearly and precisely for construction crews and contractors.
- Operate heavy machinery including dozers, loaders, excavators, backhoes, bucket trucks, and bucket operation equipment to assist in excavation and utility installation or maintenance tasks.
- Perform maintenance, repair, and operations (MRO) on tools and equipment used in utility locating and excavation activities.
- Conduct cable splicing, welding, rigging, climbing, and manual handling tasks safely while adhering to safety protocols.
- Assist with construction site activities by using hand tools, power tools, ladder use, mechanical knowledge, and heavy lifting techniques.
- Collaborate with team members on pipeline installation projects while ensuring compliance with safety standards related to high voltage and low voltage systems.
- Maintain detailed records of utility locations, project progress, and safety inspections for accountability and future reference.
Experience
- Proven experience working in the energy & utilities sector or construction environment with a focus on utility locating or excavation projects.
- Hands-on experience operating heavy equipment such as dozers, excavators, loaders, backhoes, bucket trucks, and other power tools.
- Knowledge of electrical systems including high voltage and low voltage wiring as well as fiber splicing techniques.
- Familiarity with mechanical tools, rigging procedures, climbing safety practices, and manual handling methods.
- Prior experience with pipeline or water system installation or maintenance is highly desirable.
- Strong understanding of safety protocols related to utility locating, trenching operations, welding procedures, cabling work, and working at heights.
- Ability to interpret construction plans and technical drawings related to utility infrastructure projects.
