Position Summary
The Texas Girls School is seeking a creative, intellectually curious, relationship-driven Humanities Teacher to teach middle school English Language Arts and Social Studies within an interdisciplinary, project-based learning environment.
This role combines rigorous literacy instruction with discussion-driven humanities learning designed to help girls become strong communicators, critical thinkers, confident writers, and compassionate leaders.
The ideal candidate believes reading, writing, discussion, research, storytelling, and historical thinking are essential tools for helping young women understand themselves, their communities, and the world around them.
This teacher helps cultivate a classroom culture where students feel challenged, supported, intellectually engaged, and inspired to think deeply, communicate clearly, and lead boldly.
Teaching Responsibilities English Language Arts Instruction (STAAR Tested)
- Teach middle school English Language Arts aligned to TEKS and STAAR readiness expectations
- Facilitate rigorous reading, writing, speaking, and discussion-based instruction
- Build strong student literacy skills through authentic, engaging learning experiences
- Support students in analytical writing, research, vocabulary development, and critical thinking
- Utilize student data, formative assessment, conferencing, and progress monitoring to drive instruction
- Support differentiated instruction for diverse learners, including gifted, twice-exceptional, neurodiverse, and intervention students
- Build student confidence and identity as readers, writers, and communicators
Social Studies / Humanities Instruction (8th Grade STAAR Testing)
- Teach Social Studies and humanities instruction through inquiry, discussion, projects, and interdisciplinary learning experiences
- Connect history, civics, geography, literature, leadership, and current events to real-world problem solving and student voice
- Facilitate engaging discussions, debates, research projects, and collaborative learning experiences
- Help students strengthen historical thinking, media literacy, presentation skills, and civic awareness
- Integrate writing, storytelling, and interdisciplinary project-based learning into humanities instruction
Classroom Culture & Student Support
- Build a strong classroom culture grounded in relationships, accountability, belonging, and high expectations
- Foster intellectual curiosity, creativity, empathy, and student leadership
- Support executive functioning, organization, and student self-advocacy
- Collaborate with SPED, intervention, and leadership staff to support accommodations and student success
- Maintain strong parent communication and positive family partnerships
- Support restorative practices and student-centered problem solving
Project-Based & Experiential Learning
- Collaborate with instructional leadership and experiential learning staff to support interdisciplinary projects and FLEX Friday programming
- Support exhibitions of learning, student showcases, presentations, and field experiences
- Design meaningful learning experiences connected to leadership, real-world problem solving, and student voice
- Help students connect literacy and humanities learning to innovation, leadership, and community impact
Instructional Responsibilities
- Maintain lesson plans, grading, assessment systems, and instructional documentation
- Utilize data to monitor student growth and instructional effectiveness
- Participate in PLCs, coaching, data meetings, and professional development
- Support implementation fidelity of curriculum, pacing, and instructional systems
- Maintain strong classroom management and consistent instructional expectations
- Contribute positively to campus culture, collaboration, and continuous improvement systems

Qualifications Required
- Bachelor’s Degree
- Valid Texas teaching certification
- Strong ELA instructional background
- Strong classroom management and communication skills
- Ability to differentiate instruction and support diverse learners
Preferred
- Experience teaching middle school ELA and/or Social Studies
- Experience with STAAR-tested content
- Experience with project-based learning or interdisciplinary instruction
- Charter school experience
- Experience supporting gifted, twice-exceptional, or neurodiverse learners

Compensation
- $57,995 Starting Base salary aligned with teacher salary scale
- Additional steps for each year of verified service records
- TIA/TRA eligible if applicable depending on years of service up to $8000

Pay: $55,687.12 - $67,064.05 per year
