JOB SUMMARY:
The Assistant Director of Camps & Enrichment Programs is responsible for the development, execution, and financial success of all university-hosted camp and enrichment programs. This includes day camps, athletic, creative, clinics and residential summer programs as well as weekend enrichment programs.
As an entrepreneurial leader, you will build innovative programs from the ground up, leveraging the university’s world-class faculty and facilities to drive significant revenue. You will be directly accountable for sales deliverables, enrollment growth, and the end-to-end operational and compliance management of both day and residential camps.
Working collaboratively with academic departments, Athletics, Enrollment Management, Marketing and Communications, Facilities, Public Safety, and external partners, the Assistant Director will develop and oversee programs that enhance the University's visibility, strengthen community engagement, and generate auxiliary revenue. The position serves as the primary coordinator for youth-focused programs and camps and is responsible for ensuring a high-quality experience for participants, families, faculty, staff, and community partners.
The Assistant Director will identify opportunities for new programming, foster strategic partnerships, and support the continued growth and sustainability of youth and community initiatives across the University.
SALARY INFORMATION:
In compliance with New York’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is $70,000 - $80,000. Adelphi University considers factors such as departmental budgets, scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. An annual base salary higher than the range may be warranted in circumstances where a candidate has demonstrable equivalent prior higher education experience at another University.

REPORTS TO: Executive Director of Financial Operations
RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:
Program Development & Strategic Growth:
Design & Launch Programs: Create, develop, and implement a diverse portfolio of high-quality year-round youth enrichment and camp programs.
Drive Revenue: Meet and exceed sales deliverables, enrollment targets, and profit-margin goals.
Residential Management: Develop and scale a robust residential camp model to maximize housing and dining revenue during peak summer months.
Market Analysis: Stay on top of industry best practices, market trends, and competitor offerings to ensure the university remains a premier camp destination.
Operations & Risk Management:
Cross-Campus Collaboration: Partner with Academic Affairs, Athletics, Housing, Dining, and Facilities to secure resources and integrate faculty into academic camps.
Compliance & Safety: Ensure all programs comply with university policies, state/federal regulations, childcare licensing laws, and strict safety standards for minors on campus.
Budgetary Oversight: Manage the department's P&L, optimize operational budgets, and implement data-driven pricing strategies.
Partnerships, Outreach, and Marketing:
Build and maintain relationships with academic departments, Athletics, school districts, community organizations, and external partners.
Collaborate with Marketing and Communications to promote programs and increase participation.
Represent the University at community outreach events and partnership meetings
Talent Leadership:
Source, interview, and hire all seasonal camp staff, including directors, counselors, instructors, and residential life staff.
Design comprehensive training programs focused on safety, curriculum delivery, customer service, and the university’s brand values.
Provide guidance and oversight to program staff, student employees, instructors, volunteers, and camp personnel as assigned.
Serve as a resource to University departments seeking to develop or administer youth-focused programs and camps.
Performance Metrics (Key Deliverables):
Gross Revenue & Net Profitability: Meeting or exceeding annual fiscal targets.
Enrollment Numbers: Year-over-year growth in camper registration across all program segments.
Program Expansion: Successful launch of new academic and residential camps.
Camper & Parent Satisfaction: High retention rates and positive post-camp survey data.
REQUIREMENTS (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities):

Sales & Marketing Savvy: Experience working alongside marketing teams to deploy digital campaigns, lead-generation tactics, and community outreach.
Logistical Excellence: Exceptional organizational skills to manage complex, overlapping schedules, staffing grids, and facility bookings.
Communication: Strong interpersonal skills to interface with university executives, faculty, seasonal staff, parents, and campers alike.
Ability to work evenings and weekends in support of programs and events.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Regular attendance at programs, camps, workshops, and special events is required.
Requires a flexible schedule, including extended hours, evenings, and weekends.
EDUCATIONAL/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor’s degree in Education, Business Administration, Sports Management, or a related field is required.
Master’s degree is preferred.
Five plus years of progressive leadership experience in camp management, auxiliary services, or recreational program administration, ideally within a higher education setting.
Demonstrated success in a sales-driven or revenue-generating role with full P&L accountability.
