Taproom Bar Manager – Job Description
The Taproom General Manager at Santa Fe Brewing Co. is a hands-on leadership role responsible for overseeing all daily taproom operations. This role ensures smooth and efficient service, maintains high operational and cleanliness standards, supports staff development, and creates an exceptional guest experience. The Taproom General Manager sets the tone for professionalism, accountability, communication, and team culture, while working closely with supervisors and other departments to support the taproom's overall success.
Responsibilities
Operational Oversight
- Oversee all day-to-day taproom operations with a focus on efficiency, consistency, organization, and quality service
- Serve as the first point of contact for operational issues and resolve concerns independently or escalate them appropriately when necessary
- Ensure all taproom procedures and workflows operate smoothly during service
- Maintain awareness of daily business needs and proactively address operational challenges
Supplies & Inventory
- Order and monitor supply levels to maintain appropriate par levels and operational readiness
- Ensure products and supplies are used efficiently and responsibly
- Receive and verify deliveries for accuracy
- Submit invoices and receipts to Accounts Payable monthly
- Maintain organized storage areas, coolers, and supply spaces
Staffing & Scheduling
- Create and manage weekly staff schedules while anticipating business levels based on seasonality, events, holidays, and weather patterns
- Assist with shift coverage when needed, including emergencies, no-shows, or high-volume periods
- Maintain updated Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and ensure staff adherence
- Provide leadership, direction, and support to staff
Hiring & Training
- Lead the hiring process, including posting job openings, reviewing applications, conducting interviews, and onboarding new hires
- Develop and implement effective training programs for all front-of-house staff
- Personally train and mentor employees to ensure consistency in service standards and company expectations
- Coordinate with supervisors on employee development, performance reviews, disciplinary action, and terminations when necessary
Cleanliness & Presentation
- Ensure the taproom consistently maintains high standards of cleanliness, organization, and presentation
- Conduct regular SOP checks and implement corrective actions when needed
- Oversee routine cleaning schedules and ensure staff accountability for maintaining facility standards
- Ensure all guest-facing and back-of-house areas remain clean, safe, and welcoming
Cash Handling & Accounting
- Oversee petty cash management, daily bank drops, and weekly tip distribution
- Submit monthly expense reports to accounting
- Remain available to staff and supervisors for questions related to cash handling procedures and accountability
Payroll Management
- Send bi-weekly payroll reminders to staff
- Address missed punches and timekeeping discrepancies promptly
- Ensure accurate and timely tip reporting through Google Sheets prior to payroll submission
Compliance & Policy Enforcement
- Uphold and enforce all company policies, procedures, and standards outlined in the Employee Handbook
- Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations, including Alcohol & Gaming Division and Health Department requirements
- Ensure staff properly follow customer service standards, POS procedures, and responsible alcohol service practices
Conflict Resolution & Team Support
- Address employee concerns and mediate conflicts professionally, fairly, and respectfully
- Foster a positive, inclusive, and solution-oriented work environment
- Maintain professionalism and composure during high-pressure situations
- Support team morale and encourage open communication between staff and management
Meetings & Communication
- Organize and lead staff meetings with clear agendas and actionable follow-up items
- Maintain consistent communication with staff, supervisors, and other departments via phone, email, and messaging platforms
- Ensure timely responses and effective communication to support smooth operations and informed staff
Events & Promotions
- Collaborate with the marketing department and supervisors to support events, promotions, beer releases, and community engagement efforts
- Work closely with the Private Party Coordinator to support party room events and special functions
- Assist in creating experiences that increase guest engagement, traffic, and revenue
Point of Sale (BrewPOS) Administration
- Maintain and update POS menus for beer, merchandise, specials, and seasonal offerings
- Monitor system activity, including comps, voids, and discounts, to ensure responsible use and policy compliance
- Troubleshoot POS issues and coordinate with BrewPOS support or supervisors when needed
Additional Expectations:
- All changes to SOPs, bar layout, service protocols, or procedures must be reviewed and approved by your supervisor prior to implementation.
- As a leader, your proactive attitude, attention to detail, and commitment to supporting your team are vital to the success of the taproom and overall customer experience.
Physical Requirements and Environmental Conditions:
· Able to lift materials up to 55 lbs.
· Able to stand for long periods of time.
· Able to work in an environment with high noise levels.
· Able to wear required Personal Protective Equipment (boots, gloves, apron, eye protection, etc.) when required.
