Job Overview
Male Juvenile Detention Center is hiring a Juvenile Detention Officer for a part time role with a clear path to full-time employment after 90 days based on performance and attendance. As a Juvenile Detention Officer, you will maintain a safe, secure environment, oversee daily activities, enforce facility rules, and promote rehabilitation through positive interaction and conflict resolution. All training is provided, making this an excellent opportunity for candidates looking to build a career in juvenile justice, public safety, or corrections. Must be at least 21 years of age.
Duties
- Supervise and monitor the behavior, movement, and activities to ensure safety, security, and compliance with facility rules as a Juvenile Detention Officer.
- Respond promptly to emergencies; apply first aid and CPR as needed; follow incident and facility protocols as a trained Juvenile Detention Officers.
- Engage with juveniles to foster positive relationships, model pro-social behavior, and enforce facility policies with fairness and consistency as a Juvenile Detention Officer.
- Document incidents, observations, and behaviors through clear, detailed report writing for review by management and other stakeholders.
- Implement de-escalation and conflict management techniques to reduce potential confrontations among juveniles; elevate issues appropriately.
- Conduct safety checks, searches, headcounts according to policy, maintaining logs and accurate records.
- Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required; additional education or training in criminal justice, psychology, social work, youth services, or related fields preferred.
- Certification in first aid and CPR required (or ability to obtain upon hire); additional certifications in conflict management, de-escalation, or crisis intervention are a plus.
- Strong observational skills with the ability to assess situations quickly and accurately; sound judgment under pressure.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills for effective interaction with staff, juveniles, families, and external agencies.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
- Must pass background checks and meet all legal requirements for working with juvenile populations.
- Preferred experience: prior work with kids or adolescents (schools, coaching, mentoring, youth services), conflict resolution experience, and some supervisory or team lead background.
Pay: $13.50 - $14.00 per hour
