Grill Cook / Prep Cook — Part-Time

Surf Brothers Teriyaki is looking for a dependable and motivated Grill Cook / Prep Cook to join our Encinitas team. This is a consistent, part-time position averaging approximately 30 hours per week, with the potential for additional hours based on business needs and job performance.
We are looking for someone interested in a long-term position who takes pride in preparing quality food, maintaining a clean work area, and supporting coworkers in a fast-paced restaurant environment.
Required Schedule
Applicants must be available to work the following schedule:
- Monday: 9:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m.
- Tuesday: 9:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m.
- Thursday: 9:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m.
- Friday: 9:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m.
- Sunday: 9:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m.
Sunday availability is required.
Compensation
- Base pay: $18.00 per hour
- Employees in this position currently average approximately $5.00 per hour in tips
- Estimated total compensation is approximately $23.00 per hour, including tips
Tips vary based on sales, hours worked, and the applicable tip-sharing arrangement and are not guaranteed.
Primary Responsibilities
- Cook chicken, steak, and other menu items on the grill according to company standards
- Monitor food carefully to prevent overcooking and maintain consistent quality
- Complete daily food preparation and portioning
- Prepare customer meals as needed
- Assist with catering preparation, packaging, and order completion
- Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary grill and food-preparation area
- Wash dishes, utensils, and restaurant equipment as needed
- Clean and maintain the dining area and restrooms
- Restock cups, lids, napkins, sauces, utensils, and other supplies
- Follow food-safety, sanitation, and workplace-safety procedures
- Work cooperatively with other team members to provide efficient service
- Complete other reasonable restaurant duties assigned by the store manager
Qualifications
- Reliable and punctual
- Able to consistently work the required schedule
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced restaurant environment
- Strong attention to food quality, cleanliness, and detail
- Able to communicate and work effectively with coworkers
- Willing to assist in different areas of the restaurant as needed
- Restaurant, grill, kitchen, or food-preparation experience is preferred but not required
- Bilingual English and Spanish skills are helpful but not required
Physical Requirements
This position regularly requires standing for extended periods, working near a hot grill, bending, reaching, and safely lifting and carrying restaurant supplies and catering orders. Reasonable accommodations may be available for qualified individuals with disabilities.
