The Senior Center Van Driver provides safe, courteous, and reliable transportation for senior citizens. A Van Driver is responsible for a 12-14 passenger van picking up and dropping off senior Royal Oak residents at various locations.
A Van Driver may be called upon to do any or all of the following: (These examples do not include all of the tasks which the employee may be expected to perform.)

Operate the vehicle in a safe, courteous, and reliable manner, in compliance with all traffic laws and safety procedures.

Maintain a basic understanding of the needs of the elderly and demonstrate patience, empathy, and respect.

Assist seniors and other individuals in and out of the van.
-
Be familiar with local city streets, buildings, and addresses to ensure efficient routes and timely transportation.

Utilize proper safety measures, including securing passengers with seat belts and using the wheelchair lift and stairs appropriately.

Enforce passenger safety rules and encourage safe behavior while on board.

Transport and properly secure wheelchairs and other mobility devices.

Keep accurate records of mileage, number of riders, and trip logs as required.

Report any passenger concerns, vehicle issues, or other problems to the supervisor promptly.

Be proactive in identifying and reporting any vehicular maintenance needs to the supervisor.

Perform daily checks on the van, including:

Checking oil and fluid levels
-
Monitoring tire pressure

Maintaining a full fuel tank

Keeping both the interior and exterior of the vehicle clean.
A Van Driver, upon application, shall have the following experience and training:

A valid Michigan Chauffeurs license.

High school diploma or equivalent.

A good driving record and driving experience.

Experience working with seniors or individuals with special needs.

Dependable and punctual, with a strong sense of responsibility.

Energetic, self-motivated, and positive attitude.

Strong ability to follow directions and apply attention to detail.

Good interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively and respectfully with seniors, staff, and the general public.

Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.

Ability to work harmoniously and cooperatively with other employees.

Enjoys working with and assisting senior citizens and handicapped individuals.
