Duties
- Safely operate a variety of commercial trucks such as front loader trucks, rear loader trucks, roll-off trucks, dump trucks, flatbeds, and tractor-trailers to deliver containers across assigned routes.
- Load and unload containers using appropriate equipment like front-end loaders or manual methods while adhering to safety standards.
- Follow established route schedules and traffic laws to ensure timely deliveries while maintaining compliance with DOT (Department of Transportation) regulations and state transportation laws.
- Conduct routine vehicle inspections, including checking air brakes and mechanical systems, to ensure optimal performance and safety before each trip.
- Maintain accurate delivery logs, route documentation, and incident reports; communicate effectively with dispatch regarding any delays or issues encountered during transit.
- Provide exceptional customer service by interacting professionally with clients upon delivery or pickup, addressing inquiries, and ensuring satisfaction.
- Adhere strictly to hazardous materials regulations when handling special loads and follow safety protocols during all phases of operation.
Requirements
- Proven experience operating heavy-duty vehicles such as garbage trucks, dump trucks, roll-off trucks, flatbeds, or tractor-trailers with manual transmissions.
- Valid commercial driver’s license (CDL) with endorsements for air brake operation and hazardous materials where applicable.
- Solid understanding of traffic laws, DOT regulations, and state transportation rules governing commercial truck driving.
- Mechanical knowledge for basic troubleshooting of truck systems; ability to perform routine inspections and minor repairs.
- Physical ability for heavy lifting and outdoor work in various weather conditions; comfortable working on different terrains.
- Experience with route driving in municipal waste management or solid waste collection services preferred.
- Commitment to safety protocol adherence and hazard awareness during all operations.
- Excellent communication skills coupled with a customer-focused attitude; capable of managing multiple deliveries efficiently.
