Surveillance Officers are responsible for monitoring the casino environment to ensure the safety and security of both patrons and staff. This involves utilizing advanced surveillance equipment, such as cameras and monitoring systems, to detect and prevent criminal activities, cheating, or any suspicious behavior. In addition to observing live feeds, Surveillance Officers analyze video footage to gather evidence and report incidents, contributing to a safe and enjoyable atmosphere within the casino. Their investigative work often requires collaboration with law enforcement and adherence to regulatory guidelines, making critical thinking, attention to detail, and excellent communication skills essential attributes for success in this field
Essential Functions:
- Clandestine observation of all gaming and money handling activities.
- Analyzes all gaming and money‑handling for undesirable play, fraud, theft, and deception.
- Operates electronic surveillance equipment (CCTV), a closed-circuit television to monitor casino activities.
- Operates surveillance equipment such as CCTV surveillance systems, video printers, video switchers, and various computerized equipment
- Prepares written reports and logs.
- Presents evaluations of any observed illegal activity to the proper departments and makes recommendations.
- Will follow policies to ensure safety and asset protection. Has knowledge of all slot/game procedures and Title 31.
- Acts as a role model to other employees and always presents oneself as a credit to Harrah’s, and encourages others to do the same.
- Adheres to all regulatory, company, and department policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of games and casino rules, procedures, and administration.
- Must have knowledge of games, cheating methods, and related illegal activities.
- Completes all other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Previous surveillance experience preferred.
- Must be able to respond calmly in crisis and stressful situations.
- Must be flexible in schedule to include evenings, holidays, and weekends
- Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent mathematical and reading skills.
- Must have and/or acquire a broad knowledge of the various casino games offered and cheating techniques used to compromise these games and to be able to detect when cheating or any unusual, irregular, or illegal activities are or have been present.
- Must be able to understand the various department's policies and procedures and understand when a violation has occurred.
- Must be able to operate the following equipment: Monitors, switches, computers, controllers, and cameras.
- Must be able to work in and support a team-oriented environment.
- Must be able to perform routine tasks accurately and without error.
- Initiative to work without direct supervision.
- Cannot have any immediate family members employed at Harrah’s Joliet Casino & Hotel that surveillance has auditory control over.
- Internal candidates must meet Harrah’s Joliet transfer eligibility requirements.
Physical, Mental, and Environmental Demand
- Lifts up to a maximum of 10 lbs. and/or carries objects weighing up to 10 lbs.
- The position requires 5% standing, 90% sitting, and 5% walking.
- Requires some bending, kneeling and reaching overhead.
- Must be able to respond to touch, speech, aural and visual cues.
- Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment involving constant internal and external customer contact.
- Must be able to maneuver to all areas of the casino.

*We are a 24 hour a day operation and are open 365 days a year.
- Currently open schedules are 40 hours a week (5 day work week, 2 off days).
- This position pays $20/hr. Are you able to accept this hourly rate?
- We are regulated by the Illinois Gaming Board (IGB) which is a division of the Illinois State Police department. They require all employees of the Casino to be approved for and to obtain a gaming license before working. For that to happen a few things need to occur:
1. There is a fee as stated in the job application you completed:
Level 2 License: $200, we take $50 out of 1st 4 checks to cover. Are you ok with the fee?
2. The Illinois Gaming Board will require you to pass their thorough background investigation which will review all adult & juvenile criminal and arrest records associated with your fingerprints and social security number. There are some offenses that would be considered non-licensable for employment in an Illinois casino. Are you confident that you would be approved for a license?
