American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Cardiovascular ICU (CVICU) position at a Magnet-designated Level II Trauma Center in Milwaukee, WI, requiring a minimum of 3 years of ICU experience including 1 year of CVICU experience.

30-bed CVICU unit within a 933-bed Magnet-designated Level II Trauma Center and Comprehensive Stroke Center in Milwaukee, WI

Patient population includes immediate post-op cardiac surgery (CABG, TAVR/TMVR, valve repairs/replacements, heart transplants), thoracic surgeries (esophagectomy, pneumonectomy, lobectomy), and vascular surgeries (AAA, TVAR, carotid endarterectomy)

Patient ratios: 1:1 for complex patients, 1:2 for regular ICU status, 1:3 for mixed status; tech ratio 1:8-10

RNs are permitted to draw from invasive lines but are not permitted to perform peripheral sticks; phlebotomy is available for peripheral blood draws

EMR: Epic (experience required)

Equipment includes Alaris IV pumps, Pyxis medication dispensing, and GE monitors

12-hour night shifts, 1900–0700, 36 hours per week

Weekend rotation every third weekend

1–2 holidays required per contract

Floating may be required to ED Holding, other ICUs (MRICU, SICU, CICU, Neuro ICU), MSU (1:3 ratio), Sitter, or PACU Surge

No on-call requirements

Active WI or compact RN license currently in hand
-
Current BLS and ACLS certifications required; CCRN preferred
-
Minimum 3 years of ICU experience with at least 1 year of CVICU experience required

Most recent experience must be within the last year
-
Proficiency in invasive line monitoring (Swan-Ganz, A-lines), epicardial and transvenous pacemakers, chest tubes, cardiac medications (inotropes, vasopressors, sedation/paralytics), ventilator/trach management, and cardiac rhythm interpretation required

Epic EMR experience required

Experience with CV surgical support devices (ECMO, CVVH, IABP, VAD) preferred

Must provide at least 1 professional reference from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN dated within the last year

Former employees of Advocate Health or any of its subsidiaries must be separated for at least 12 months before being eligible for this position

Department support includes a charge nurse (rarely with patient assignment), 24/7 HUC, dedicated CVICU Intensivist, CT Surgeon on call, hospitalist, General Intensivist, and ICU-designated respiratory therapist; bedside and nurses station telemetry monitoring is available (no tele tech)

Orientation consists of 1 day: 2–4 hours of nurse educator onboarding followed by unit time with a preceptor

Scheduling operates on a 6-week cycle; schedule is provided 1–2 weeks before the cycle begins
-
Up to 7 days of RTO may be approved per contract
-
Staff, including travelers, may not exceed 60 hours in a week or 5 consecutive 12-hour shifts per the facility's fatigue policy
-
Scrubs must be a solid color, professional appearance; no graphics, logos, or designs
-
Free parking is available; daytime parking is 1–2 blocks away with shuttle service, and overnight parking is in an attached structure
