THE OPPORTUNITY
The Muhammad Ali Center is seeking a “Compassion Index Program Manager” to support the continued growth of the Muhammad Ali Index and related compassion initiatives.
This is a deliverable-based engagement (approximately three days per week) focused on disciplined program management, partnership coordination, and structured implementation of approved strategic priorities.
The role will work closely with the Chief of Compassion to:
- Track institutional partnership deliverables
- Maintain program timelines across research, funding, communications, and governance
- Monitor budgets and delivery risk
- Support funding and impact partner pipelines
- Coordinate across internal teams to ensure execution at institutional standard
Strategic direction and external positioning remain with Ali Center leadership. This role exists to ensure that strategy is translated into measurable, accountable delivery.
Overview
The Compassion Index Program Manager will be engaged by the Muhammad Ali Center to provide program management and coordination services in support of the Muhammad Ali Index and related compassion initiatives.
Working in collaboration with the Chief of Compassion, the contractor will support the translation of approved strategic priorities into structured program implementation through project management, coordination, and tracking of activities associated with related partnerships and initiatives.
Engagement Structure
This engagement is deliverable based. While services are anticipated to approximate three days per week, the contractor retains full discretion over scheduling and work hours, provided that agreed deadlines and deliverables are met.
Scope of Services
1. Institutional Partnerships
The contractor will provide coordination and project tracking support related to selected institutional partnerships, which may include:
- Monitoring timelines associated with partnership deliverables
- Preparing meeting agendas and follow up materials upon request
- Coordinating inputs from Center staff to support timely completion of partnership commitments
- Identifying potential delivery risks and communicating such risks to the Chief of Compassion
2. Muhammad Ali Index Project Management
The contractor will provide project management support for implementation of Index related workstreams, including:
- Maintaining program timelines across funding partners, impact partners, research, communications, and governance activities
- Supporting task tracking through designated project management platforms such as Monday.com
- Monitoring progress against identified deliverables
- Providing structured status updates to the Chief of Compassion
3. Funding and Partner Pipeline Support
- Maintain tracking tools for prospective funding and impact partners
- Monitor progression of identified partnership opportunities
- Support preparation of briefing materials, proposals, or presentations
- Track follow up timelines as directed by Center leadership
4. Budget and Risk Monitoring
- Monitor program activity in relation to approved budgets
- Identify potential funding gaps or resource constraints
- Maintain a project level risk tracker
- Provide recommendations regarding delivery or reputational risk mitigation
5. Internal Coordination Support
The contractor will facilitate coordination across development, communications, research, and leadership teams by:
- Maintaining shared calendars
- Supporting document organization and version control
- Monitoring interdependencies between workstreams
6. Representation
The contractor may participate in partner meetings or calls at the request of the Chief of Compassion for informational or coordination purposes.
Reporting Relationship
The contractor will provide regular status updates to the Chief of Compassion regarding progress toward agreed deliverables.
Strategic direction, institutional commitments, and external positioning remain the responsibility of the Chief of Compassion and Center leadership.
Performance Indicators
The effectiveness of services provided under this engagement may be evaluated based on:
- Maintenance of program tracking tools
- Timely communication of delivery risks
- Accuracy of status reporting
- Progress of identified partnership and program workstreams
- Alignment of program timelines with approved institutional priorities
