POSITION OVERVIEW
The Associate General Manager is a balanced operator and sales leader who keeps the store running beautifully and the team performing at its best. Reporting directly to the Owner/Operator, this person is equally comfortable on the floor building customer relationships as they are managing compliance, inventory, and daily operations behind the scenes.
We’re looking for someone who genuinely loves cannabis, knows the Massachusetts market, and can drive revenue growth through product knowledge, customer experience, and team coaching — while maintaining the operational rigor that a licensed dispensary requires.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Sales & Customer Experience
- Drive in-store sales performance by coaching the team on product knowledge, upselling, and consultative selling techniques
- Model best-in-class customer interactions on the floor, setting the standard for how the dispensary engages every guest
- Monitor daily and weekly sales trends; identify opportunities and share insights with ownership
- Champion the loyalty program — driving enrollment, engagement, and repeat visits
- Oversee the customer experience for our direct-to-consumer delivery, ensuring every order reflects the brand
- Manage Google presence — promoting reviews, responding to reviews and flagging patterns to ownership
- Support local marketing and community initiatives that drive traffic and brand awareness in the neighborhood
Team Leadership & Development
- Lead, schedule, and motivate a team of budtenders and shift leads with energy and accountability
- Conduct regular product knowledge sessions to keep the team sharp, confident, and consultative on the floor
- Support hiring and onboarding in partnership with the owner
- Run pre-shift huddles that set the team up to sell and serve with intention
- Foster an inclusive, high-performance team culture that reflects company values
Operations & Compliance
- Ensure day-to-day operations run smoothly and in full compliance with Massachusetts CCC regulations
- Maintain accurate seed-to-sale tracking in METRC and oversee proper documentation across all transactions
- Enforce SOPs for opening/closing, cash handling, product intake, and delivery order fulfillment
- Manage the third-party courier relationship for delivery, including order accuracy, compliance documentation, and SLA performance
- Ensure all staff hold current agent registrations and complete required compliance training
Inventory & Merchandising
- Oversee product intake, cycle counts, and inventory reconciliation
- Maintain on-shelf availability and flag purchasing needs proactively
- Execute in-store merchandising that is visually compelling and on-brand
- Use product performance data to make informed recommendations on assortment to ownership
Financial & Administrative
- Oversee daily cash handling, vault counts, and end-of-day reconciliation
- Review daily sales reports and surface actionable insights to ownership
- Support vendor communication and assist with expense tracking as directed
QUALIFICATIONS
Required
- 2+ years of cannabis retail experience, including at least 1 year in a supervisory or management role
- Deep knowledge of cannabis products, consumption methods, and the Massachusetts adult-use market
- Demonstrated ability to coach a sales team and drive measurable revenue results
- Working knowledge of Massachusetts CCC regulations and compliance requirements
- Experience with METRC or equivalent seed-to-sale tracking software
- Proficiency with cannabis POS systems
- Must be 21+ and able to obtain and maintain a Massachusetts Cannabis Agent Registration
- Must pass all required state and local background checks
Preferred
- Experience at an independent, single-store cannabis operation
- Track record of growing basket size, loyalty enrollment, or delivery channel adoption
- Passion for the culture, community, and evolving conversation around cannabis
You’re a Great Fit If You…
- Lead from the floor, not from the back office — you love being with customers and your team
- Know your products inside and out and can translate that knowledge into genuine recommendations
- Are organized and detail-oriented without being rigid — you can hold compliance standards and still create a warm, welcoming environment
- Communicate proactively, keep ownership informed, and don’t need to be micromanaged
