Pettit Staffing is recruiting for an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer for a well-established manufacturing and custom equipment company.
This opportunity is a potential temporary to hire opportunity. This position requires more than drafting or creating drawings from existing concepts.
We are seeking an engineer who can design mechanical equipment and assemblies from concept through production, apply sound engineering judgment, and work within established company design standards and protocols.
Key Responsibilities
Design custom machinery, equipment, mechanical components, and assemblies using SolidWorks
Develop complete mechanical designs from concept through manufacturing and installation
Create detailed 3D models, assemblies, fabrication drawings, and production documentation
Perform engineering calculations and evaluate loads, tolerances, materials, fit, function, and manufacturability
Apply GD&T and sound mechanical design principles Design components and assemblies appropriate for fabricated and machined manufacturing environments
Work closely with manufacturing, fabrication, machining, assembly, and senior engineering personnel to ensure designs can be successfully built and operated
Review designs, identify potential problems, and make appropriate engineering revisions before production
Follow established engineering procedures, design standards, documentation requirements, and company protocols Incorporate technical feedback and mentoring into future designs
Troubleshoot mechanical and design issues and participate in root-cause analysis Maintain accurate engineering documentation and revision control
Desired Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or closely related engineering discipline preferred
Strong SolidWorks experience required Demonstrated experience designing machinery, industrial equipment, automated equipment, material-handling systems, or other fabricated mechanical systems
Strong understanding of mechanical design principles, manufacturing processes, tolerances, materials, and fabrication
Experience with machined and fabricated components Working knowledge of GD&T Ability to independently move a project from design concept to detailed manufacturing drawings
Ability to work within established engineering standards rather than relying solely on previous methods or practices
Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail Collaborative, coachable approach with the ability to receive and implement technical feedback
