Car Connection is seeking an experienced Lead Automotive Technician / Shop Foreman to join our busy used car dealership and automotive repair shop in Raleigh. We are looking for a dependable, hands-on technician who can accurately diagnose difficult mechanical and electrical problems, perform major repairs, and help oversee the daily workflow of the shop.
This is not a desk-only management position. The Lead Technician will work directly on vehicles while helping guide other technicians, verify completed repairs, and make sure vehicles move through the shop efficiently. We service a wide variety of domestic, Asian, and European vehicles, so strong all-around automotive knowledge and advanced diagnostic ability are required.
The ideal candidate is confident using professional scan tools, wiring diagrams, technical service information, multimeters, and other diagnostic equipment. You must be able to determine the actual cause of a problem instead of simply replacing parts.
Responsibilities
- Diagnose complex mechanical, electrical, drivability, emissions, and communication-system problems
- Perform engine, transmission, suspension, steering, brake, cooling-system, HVAC, and general automotive repairs
- Use professional scan tools, wiring diagrams, service information, multimeters, test lights, and diagnostic equipment
- Inspect vehicles and determine which repairs are necessary
- Assign and coordinate work with other technicians when needed
- Assist less-experienced technicians with difficult diagnostic and repair problems
- Verify that repairs are completed properly before vehicles leave the shop
- Communicate repair findings, required parts, and estimated completion times clearly
- Maintain an organized, safe, and productive work area
- Help keep dealership inventory and customer vehicles moving through the shop efficiently
Qualifications
- Strong professional automotive repair and diagnostic experience
- Advanced mechanical and electrical diagnostic skills
- Ability to read and understand wiring diagrams and technical repair information
- Experience diagnosing check-engine lights, drivability problems, electrical faults, no-start conditions, and network communication issues
- Ability to perform major and minor automotive repairs
- Experience working on multiple vehicle makes and models
- Ability to lead technicians while remaining productive with hands-on repair work
- Dependable attendance and strong work ethic
- Valid driver’s license
- Must have personal automotive tools appropriate for an experienced technician
- ASE certifications are preferred but not required
We are looking for someone who takes pride in solving difficult problems, producing quality work, and helping operate an efficient repair shop. Compensation will be based on experience, diagnostic ability, productivity, and leadership skills.
