The Public Defender Corporation for Boone and Lincoln Counties is seeking a Parental Resource Navigator under our Title 4E grant.
The right candidate will assist our clients in abuse and neglect matters connect with the services that are needed to successfully complete their improvement periods and reunite with their families during a case instituted by Child Protective Services.
The right candidate will have training, education, work experience, or lived experience involving working with families and those recovering from a substance abuse addiction.
Responsibilities:
- Connect with clients involved in the abuse and neglect system in Boone and Lincoln Counties and act as a liaison between the office and those clients.
- Guide parents in meeting goals of improvement periods including connecting with needed services such as substance abuse treatment, food pantries, employment services, and housing services.
- Attend regular court hearings with the attorney handling the abuse and neglect caseload in order to provide support for the attorney and clients.
- Regularly attend Family Treatment Court and become an active member of the treatment team for the court.
- Regularly attend meetings with community partners that aid our clients in meeting the goals in their cases.
- Make and maintain connections in the substance abuse recovery community and with other community leaders that could provide services to our clients.
-Maintain the necessary reports and databases to report results back to Public Defender Services.
Skills and Requirements:
To excel in this role, you should possess the following:
- Possess a high school education, GED, or other approved high school equivalency diploma approved by the state of West Virginia. (An Associate’s Degree or Certifications in a field related to substance recovery or children and families is a plus.)
-Experience in working with children and families.
-Experience in working in the substance recovery community either through work or lived experience.
- A valid West Virginia Driver’s License and vehicle for occasional travel.
- The ability to work in a legal setting with attorneys and other legal professionals and maintain confidentiality with our clients.
-The ability to work independently and be a self-starter.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office programs including Office, Excel, Outlook, Power Point, and TEAMS.
- The ability to connect and network with members of the community, especially in the substance recovery community.
-If claiming lived experience, must be at least two years in active substance abuse recovery.
