QUALIFICATIONS:
The Director of Maintenance should possess a demonstrated aptitude in all areas of school
maintenance, have at least two years experience in related maintenance work, and possess other
skills and abilities as deemed necessary for the position by the Local Board of Education.
JOB GOAL:
To coordinate and oversee the process of maintaining all school facilities in a proper condition so
as to promote a safe, clean and attractive environment for the educational programs of the
district.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Oversee the maintenance, repair and renovation of the school buildings, grounds, and
equipment.
2. Direct, coordinate, and oversee the maintenance program.
3. Assist the principal in planning and supervising the work of the custodians.
4. Work with the Building Principal concerning the appointment, transfer, and dismissal of
custodial staff.
5. Purchase all maintenance and custodial equipment, parts, materials and supplies that have
been allotted in the operating budget.
6. File all reports requested by the Superintendent and/or the Board.
7. Make a recommendation to the Superintendent on the appointment, transfer, or dismissal
of maintenance personnel, and evaluate their job performance.
8. Develop a list of maintenance projects to be completed each year.
9. Secure substitute custodians whenever any of the regular custodians need to be absent.
10. Serve as the safety coordinator for the district.
11. Develop and implement a preventive maintenance plan for the district.
12. Oversee and implement the district policy on energy conservation in all buildings.
13. Perform other responsibilities as assigned by the Superintendent.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The individual who holds this position is regularly required to walk, hear and speak. They must
have close moderate and distance vision ability and must be able to travel between district
facilities. They must be able to communicate in noisy environments such as construction sites

Consistent and regular attendance is an essential function of this position.

CONDITIONS AND ENVIRONMENT:
The individual who occupies this position will regularly be required to work outside,
