About Avalon Academic Center
We are a new K–12 tutoring center opening in Wylie this September. Our site will be operated by the team behind Avalon School of Music; a family business that has served students and families in Wylie and Allen for over twenty years.
Our campus is a quiet, safe, supervised space where students come after school to seek additional instruction and assistance. Supporting youth is what we do at Avalon and we are hiring now.
Job Responsibilities
- Instruct and advise a small roster of students that will be seen on a consistent basis. Tutoring may be in small groups or individualized instruction.
- Review each student's IXL diagnostic and build a personalized skill plan, brief lesson plan and objectives and adjust as students show mastery.
- Learning groups are capped at four students per instructor and will cover targeted state standards in number sense, operations and fact fluency, fractions and proportional reasoning, algebraic thinking and geometry.
- Our site will offer an open small group instruction area as well as Individualized work rooms, at your discretion.
- Generate brief lesson plans and short monthly notes to parents regarding student progress, behavior and next steps.
- Assign and review between-session student practice and results.
- Offer parents brief feedback regarding students during the pick-up process
- Provide Coverage of the Homework Club sessions while we build out your one-on-one and small group calendar. In the first weeks/months of Avalon Academic Center’s operation, a portion of your weekly hours will come from Homework Club tutoring; for which you will still receive your full instructor rate of pay.
Qualifications
- Texas teaching certification is strongly preferred. A bachelor's degree plus demonstrated experience teaching or tutoring will also be considered.
- Coursework or certification in secondary mathematics, or experience teaching through Algebra II and beyond, is a strong plus for this position.
- Comfortable providing instruction across a wide range of grade levels which may include elementary, middle level and high school learners.
- Reliable, Punctual and consistent availability during after-school hours
- Patient, compassionate and able to set boundaries and class expectations
Application Process
