Job Summary
Stokes Trucking is seeking an experienced Diesel/Trailer Technician to join our maintenance team. This position reports directly to the Director of Maintenance and will primarily work on our fleet of Freightliner Cascadia semi-trucks and commercial trailers (Utility and Great Dane).
We are looking for someone with at least 2 years of heavy-duty truck and/or trailer repair experience who is comfortable performing preventative maintenance, inspections, brake work, tire service, trailer repairs, lighting repairs, and general mechanical work.
Must provide and maintain a basic set of personal hand tools appropriate for heavy-duty truck and trailer repair
Our focus is on keeping our fleet safe, well-maintained, and on the road. Major engine, transmission, and advanced electrical diagnostic work is generally handled by our nearby Freightliner dealership.
Responsibilities
- Perform preventative maintenance and routine services on Class 8 tractors and commercial trailers.
- Perform oil changes, filter replacements, lubrication, fluid checks, and scheduled maintenance.
- Inspect, service, and repair air disc brake systems on tractors and trailers.
- Diagnose and repair trailer brake components, air lines, chambers, valves, and related air system components.
- Inspect, repair, replace, and service commercial truck and trailer tires and wheels.
- Diagnose and repair truck and trailer lighting issues, including lights, plugs, connections, and basic wiring repairs.
- Perform general trailer repairs and maintenance.
- Inspect and repair suspension components.
- Diagnose and repair air leaks and other pneumatic system issues.
- Inspect and service wheel ends, hubs, bearings, and seals.
- Perform basic mechanical repairs on Freightliner Cascadia tractors.
- Perform DOT inspection-related repairs and help ensure equipment remains DOT compliant.
- Identify developing maintenance issues before they result in breakdowns or unnecessary downtime.
- Determine when repairs can be completed in-house and when equipment should be referred to the Freightliner dealership or another outside repair facility.
- Complete repair orders and accurately document work performed and parts used.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe shop environment.
- Assist with roadside or emergency repairs when needed.
- Communicate equipment concerns, needed repairs, and repair status to the Director of Maintenance.
- Work closely with drivers and the maintenance team to address equipment issues in a timely manner.
Minimum Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of experience working on heavy-duty trucks, semi-trucks, trailers, or similar commercial equipment.
- Working knowledge of heavy-duty air brake systems and air disc brakes.
- Experience with commercial truck and trailer tires.
- Experience performing basic truck and trailer lighting repairs.
- Experience performing preventative maintenance on Class 8 equipment.
- General understanding of diesel engines and heavy-duty truck systems.
- Ability to diagnose common mechanical problems and determine appropriate repairs.
- Ability to safely use shop equipment, power tools, jacks, and other heavy-duty repair equipment.
- Must provide and maintain a basic set of personal hand tools appropriate for heavy-duty truck and trailer repair.
- Valid driver's license.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a maintenance team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working on Freightliner Cascadia tractors.
- Experience working on reefer and dry van trailers.
- Experience performing DOT inspections.
- CDL is a plus.
- ASE or other diesel technician certifications are a plus.

Pay: $50,000.00 - $60,000.00 per year
