Position Overview
The Inspector/Construction Firestop Drywall Technician plays a critical role in maintaining life‑safety compliance across healthcare, commercial, and industrial facilities. This position is responsible for inspecting, installing, repairing, and documenting approved firestop and smoke‑stop systems to restore the fire and smoke ratings of rated wall assemblies. Work must meet NFPA, IBC, UL, and manufacturer specifications, with high attention to detail in occupied, sensitive, and fast‑paced environments.
Candidates must be detail-oriented and mechanically inclined to join our team. This role is vital for ensuring compliance and occupant safety across various commercial and medical facilities. The ideal candidate is a hands-on problem solver capable of interpreting life safety drawings, technical/mechanical drawings and delivering high-quality safety solutions. As part of the Operations team, you will be cross trained to provide additional compliance services offered at LSE, including inspection and remediation of dampers, doors and other life safety assets. Candidates must be able to work independently as well as on a team.
Key Responsibilities
- Inspect penetrations and assemblies to determine required firestop or smoke‑stop remediation.
- Install and repair firestop systems including sealants, sleeves, collars, wraps, putty, pillows, and drywall patching.
- Verify compliance with NFPA 101, IBC, UL listings, and facility‑specific life‑safety standards.
- Document all work through detailed reports, photos, measurements, and material usage logs.
- Perform drywall repair and finishing related to firestop installations, including cutting, patching, taping, and sanding.
- Maintain tools, equipment, and materials to ensure safe and efficient operation.
- Follow infection‑control protocols when working in healthcare environments (ICRA, containment setup, PPE).
- Adhere to safety procedures including fall protection, ladder use, confined spaces, and hot‑work restrictions.
Required Qualifications
- Mechanical Aptitude: Strong proficiency with hand and power tools (drills, saws).
- Carpentry Skills: Must possess basic carpentry skills.
- Light Electrical Skills: Must possess basic knowledge in light electrical.
- Technical Literacy: Ability to read and interpret life safety and mechanical drawings or must be willing to learn.
- Computer Skills: Must have basic computer skills.
- Flexibility: Must be able to work nights and weekends on occasion to meet client needs and facility schedules.
- Travel: Must have transportation. Willingness and ability to travel out of state for project-based work if required.
- Physical Stamina: Ability to climb ladders, work overhead, and in confined spaces (crawl spaces, above ceilings), and lift up to 50 lbs.
- Clearance: Valid driver’s license and ability to pass a background check.
Preferred Experience
- Prior firestop installation experience (Hilti, 3M, STI systems).
- Knowledge of NFPA Codes and Firestop Installation Systems
- Healthcare facility experience or ICRA certification.
- OSHA 10/30 training.
- Experience with facility maintenance, carpentry, or specialty construction trades.
