Position Purpose: The Primary Therapist is responsible for performing a wide variety of client care activities as directed by the Clinical Director. Consistently meets or exceeds productivity standards for the position. Primary Therapists are responsible for managing a client caseload and will provide group, individual, and family therapy sessions. Conducts bio-psychosocial assessments, substance use histories, and clinically related assessments. Collaborates with the treatment team to formulate comprehensive, integrated Treatment Plans, and assists in developing and coordinating discharge planning. Builds therapeutic rapport with family, communicates weekly with clinical updates, and provides appropriate resources to assist with overall quality of care. Works collaboratively with staff to assess and develop case management plans.
Qualifications/Position Requirements:
1. Education: No company defined minimum education required (see #3 required Licensure).
2. Experience: A minimum of 1 year experience in mental health and/or substance use disorder filed. Experience in addictive disease treatment program therapy.
3. Certification/Licensure: Clear and active license or licensed registered intern (must be registered with the state and working towards full licensure); LMFT, LMHC, LCSW, licensed psychologist preferred. Have or obtain CPR/AED/First Aid Certification prior to or within 6 months of hire.
4. Training and Knowledge Required at Time of Hire:
a. Knowledge of principles and practices utilized in the industry, utilizing evidence-based treatment approaches such as: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Interpersonal Therapy, Exposure Therapy, etc.
b. Knowledge of DCF rules and regulations, Joint Commission standards and/or Payer/Insurance requirements.
c. Knowledge of verbal/therapeutic de-escalation techniques.
d. Knowledge of State & Federal Statues regarding patient confidentiality laws and requirements.
e. Demonstrates proficiency in communication and written skills.
5. Age Specific Individuals Served/Responsibility: Adults (18+ years)

Position Specific Competencies:
1. Gather comprehensive diagnostic information and create integrative summary in the BioPsychoSocial.
2. Develop a diagnostic evaluation of the client’s substance use and any coexisting conditions based on the results of assessments to provide an integrative approach to treatment planning based on the client’s identified needs and problems (problem list).
3. Formulate comprehensive treatment plans with client that effectively addresses client issues and are completed within established required timeframes.
4. Develop clearly stated treatment goals and objectives that are measurable and include realistic target dates for achievements. When applicable, utilize the client’s own words and level of comprehension.
5. Utilize Clinical Supervision weekly to discuss appropriateness of clinical interventions to ensure the provision of effective treatment services and recognize issues that are beyond the counselor’s base of knowledge and or/skill.
6. Verbal De-escalation and Crisis Management. Recognizes, responds to, and assists in psychiatric crisis situations and provide the intervention necessary.
7. Documents the assessment of client progress/regress and interventions provided on an ongoing basis.
Position Duties, Responsibilities, and Tasks:
1. Core:
- Review assessments from referring facilities and note problems/issues that require further attention.
b. Individualize counseling in accordance with cultural, gender, and lifestyle differences.
- Gather comprehensive diagnostic information through psychosocial assessment interview.
- Develop an Integrated Summary, bringing together information from all assessments to identify problem areas that may affect treatment and/or need to be addressed in treatment planning.
- Develop a comprehensive problem list that reflects client’s individual issues as described in the assessments and Integrated Summary.
- During first session with client, review initial treatment plan, including case management issues and be sure that client and staff assignments and responsibilities are understood and in progress
- Formulate a comprehensive treatment plan with client that effectively addresses client issues and is completed within established time frames.

j. Perform/complete other duties as assigned by management.
2. Administrative:
a. Regularly document pertinent ongoing information pertaining to the client and ensure that the documentation is timely, accurate, clear, and professional.
b. Participate in Quality Assurance/Performance Improvement activities and contribute to the overall welfare of the organization.
- Work with case manager to develop a discharge plan that meets client needs for ongoing support.
- Keep clinical records always secure following HIPAA and 42 CFR Part II standards.
- Be effective in finding needed resources.
- Work with case manager to link client with internal and external resources as needed to meet the needs of the client(s).
- Work with case manager to Assist families in finding resources to help themselves.
- Adhere to time schedules.
- Contact referral source and other key individuals to gather additional information.
Pay: $70,000.00 - $85,000.00 per year
