Accounting Clerk Job Description
The Accounting Clerk will work closely with charter school clients on a wide range of accounting tasks, including—but not limited to—payroll processing, accounts payable, grant management, journal entries, bank reconciliations, and financial reporting.
The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, highly organized, and possesses strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced and occasionally high-pressure environment.
The Accounting Clerk will report to the Senior Accounting Specialist.
Qualifications
- Associate’s degree in Accounting (minimum requirement) and at least two years of recent, related experience
- Strong experience with QuickBooks, including payroll, accounts payable, deposits, journal entries, and debits
- Proficiency with ADP payroll systems
- Ability to perform complex financial and statistical analyses
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
- Ability to multitask, shift priorities, and maintain focus in a fast-paced environment
- Strong organizational and time-management skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently
- Strong analytical skills
- Previous charter or district school accounting experience preferred but not required
- Ability to successfully pass QuickBooks and Excel skills assessments
Functions
- Perform budgetary and accounting functions for charter school clients
- Reconcile monthly bank statements for all bank, credit card, and investment accounts
- Code accounts in accordance with the Uniform System of Financial Records for Charter Schools
- Maintain accurate financial records and documentation to ensure compliance and provide a clear audit trail
- Prepare and deliver accurate, timely reports and financial information as requested by clients
- Analyze and interpret financial data from multiple sources
- Prepare journal entries for financial reporting, annual audits, and internal audits
- Deliver excellent customer service to clients
Terms of Employment
This is a full-time, hourly position. Upon successful completion of a 90-day probationary period, employees become eligible for benefits, including accrued paid time off (PTO) and holiday pay.
