Bob Johnson Mazda is seeking an Experienced Flat Rate Technician to join our fast-paced and high-performing service team. This individual will be responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining a wide range of vehicles with a focus on delivering high-quality work efficiently. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background, professional work ethic, and the ability to work independently under a flat rate pay structure.
Key Responsibilities:
Vehicle Diagnostics & Repair
Accurately diagnose mechanical and electrical issues in a wide range of vehicles (domestic, import, or specific brand depending on your dealership).
Perform repairs according to manufacturer specifications and industry standards, including engines, transmissions, suspension, brakes, electrical systems, HVAC, and drivability issues.
Efficiency & Productivity
Complete assigned repairs within manufacturer-recommended labor times and in accordance with flat rate standards.
Maximize billed hours by working efficiently without compromising quality.
Maintain a consistent and reliable workflow with minimal supervision.
Documentation & Communication
Complete accurate and detailed repair orders, including diagnostics, parts used, and services performed.
Communicate effectively with service advisors and other team members regarding vehicle status, additional service needs, or delays.
Follow all internal documentation processes for warranty and customer-pay work.
Compliance & Safety
Follow all safety protocols, OSHA regulations, and dealership guidelines.
Properly handle and dispose of hazardous materials and chemicals.
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
Team Collaboration
Support junior technicians by providing guidance and mentorship when needed.
Contribute to a team-oriented environment, sharing knowledge and expertise with peers.
Attend required training sessions to maintain manufacturer certifications and stay current with technological advancements.
Experience:
Certifications:
ASE Certifications preferred or willingness to obtain.
Manufacturer certifications (Toyota, Ford, GM, Honda, etc.) are a plus.
Technical Skills:
Proficient in using diagnostic tools (scan tools, multimeters, scopes).
Strong understanding of vehicle systems and OEM repair procedures.
Ability to interpret service manuals, wiring diagrams, and technical bulletins.
Other Requirements:
Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
Must supply own professional-grade tools.
Ability to work in a flat-rate environment and self-manage time effectively.
