We are hiring an Experienced Access Control Technician to support customers across Central Virginia and selected regional project sites outside of the state of Virginia.
This role is ideal for a technician who takes pride in precise fieldwork, low-voltage systems, electro-mechanical troubleshooting, and representing a respected company with a long-standing regional reputation.
Position Overview
As an Electronic Security Technician, you will install, service, troubleshoot, and program access control, video surveillance, commercial alarm, and related low-voltage security systems.
You will work on scheduled projects and service calls, coordinating with customers and field teams to deliver reliable systems, accurate documentation, and professional customer support.
The right candidate is organized, detail-oriented, technically curious, and comfortable working independently in a demanding field environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Install, maintain, repair, troubleshoot, and program access control, video surveillance, commercial alarm, and related electronic security systems.
- Pull cable, install conduit and pathways, mount peripheral devices, deploy flagship products, and complete system configurations to project standards.
- Read schematics, use hand tools and low-voltage equipment, and follow NEC standards during installations and repairs.
- Communicate professionally with clients, assess service needs, and provide practical security solutions in the field.
- Document service calls and project work daily to maintain accurate records of work performed.
- Participate in software programming classes, certification paths, professional development, and continuing education for key platforms.
- Serve customers primarily in Central Virginia, with occasional travel to surrounding states for designated projects or service calls.
Qualifications
- Proven experience as an electronic security technician, access control technician, low-voltage technician, or similar field role.
- Strong working knowledge of low-voltage systems, computer networking principles, technical schematics, and field troubleshooting.
- Ability to communicate clearly with customers and team members while maintaining professional standards on active job sites.
- Relevant electronics, locksmithing, access control, alarm, or security technology certifications preferred but not required.
- Familiarity with intrusion detection systems, VMS/VSS platforms, and commercial security products is a plus.
- Detail-oriented problem solver with strong critical thinking skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities in the field.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to pass a background check required.
- Ability to travel for regional projects and service calls, including occasional trips several hours away and approximately 4–5 overnight travel days per month on average.
