Job Title: Sandblaster

Position Summary
The Sandblaster is responsible for performing dry abrasive blast cleaning on previously painted, unpainted, rusted, and non-ferrous materials. This role prepares metal surfaces to meet SSPC and NACE International joint standards. The Sandblaster must follow all safety protocols, maintain equipment properly, and ensure surfaces are ready for further processing or coating.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Safety & PPE
- Wear all required PPE during blasting operations, including:
- Blasting helmet
- Steel-toe footwear
- Eye protection
- Hearing protection
- Blast suit
- Gloves
- Follow OSHA, facility, and blasting safety standards.
- Maintain awareness of hazardous surroundings including forklifts and moving equipment.
Blasting Operations
- Perform dry abrasive blasting to remove coatings, rust, and contaminants.
- Prepare metal surfaces to meet SSPC/NACE blasting standards (SP classifications).
- Handle all parts with care to prevent damage.
- Recognize metal types that may be vulnerable to warping, gouging, or distortion.
Material Handling
- Safely operate a forklift to move heavy or oversized product (training provided).
- Request assistance from coworkers when lifting or positioning large items.
Documentation
- Record blasting times on job travelers.
- Count each piece of product for every job and verify accuracy.
Equipment Maintenance
- Inspect all blast hoses, couplers, and connections for wear or damage.
- Ensure air pressure meets allowed PSI levels for proper blasting performance.
- Inspect blast nozzles to confirm bore diameter is within specification.
- Verify blast media is clean and not contaminated.
Production Support
- Assist with moving product to the paint shop or other production areas as needed.
- Support efficient workflow across the facility.
Customer Service
- Assist customers promptly when waiting for products or service.
- Maintain professional communication and behavior at all times.
Performance Measurements
- Positive attitude and teamwork.
- Follows instructions, procedures, and safety requirements.
- Arrives on time and ready for work.
- Communicates effectively with coworkers and supervisors.
- Identifies product issues caused by blasting.
- Demonstrates knowledge of blasting equipment and processes.
- Meets daily and weekly production deadlines.
Qualifications
- Ability to read and write.
- Ability to tell time and track job times accurately.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Ability to communicate material or equipment issues to the Shift Supervisor.
- Critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
- OSHA PPE training preferred.
- Ability to operate a forklift or obtain certification.
- Ability to train less experienced workers.
Work Environment
- Fast-paced surface preparation and powder coating environment.
- Exposure to noise, dust, abrasive materials, powder, heat, and moving equipment.
- Requires use of PPE such as helmets, respirators, gloves, safety glasses, and steel-toe shoes.
- Frequent standing, bending, lifting up to 75 lbs, and pushing/pulling heavy items.

Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $18.00 - $20.00 per hour
