A Day in the Life of the A/V Technician
In this role, you'll be the hands-on backbone of our client's live event program and in-house video production, supporting patient-facing conferences that bring critical health education to the people who need it most. One day you might be running live sound and switching video for a 150-person Roundtable conference, the next you could be behind a camera on a studio shoot or coordinating physician interviews at a major medical conference. Your work directly supports the organization's mission of connecting patients with the education and resources that improve their care.
Responsibilities include:
- Setting up, operating, and striking audio and video systems for live conferences (100–200 attendees, dual-projector setups, 4–6 speakers)
- Running live sound (wireless mics, lavs, mixers) and managing playback/switching during sessions
- Troubleshooting A/V issues in real time with minimal disruption to the audience
- Coordinating with venue A/V staff, event coordinators, and speakers on setup and technical requirements
- Recording sessions for later editing and distribution
- Assisting with camera operation, lighting, and audio recording for studio and on-location shoots
- Supporting basic editing, file management, and media organization between events
- Maintaining, transporting, and inventorying A/V equipment
- Reaching out to physicians and clinical experts to schedule on-site interviews at major medical conferences
- Managing interview logistics, including scheduling, room/equipment needs, and day-of coordination
- Supporting HealthTree University coordination, including scheduling filming sessions and communicating with speakers and stakeholders
- Serving as a clear, professional point of contact for physicians, speakers, and partners
Requirements and Qualifications:
- 2+ years of experience in live event A/V production (conferences, corporate events, or similar), plus general video production experience
- Working knowledge of audio mixing (wireless mic systems, mixers, gain staging) and multi-source video switching/projection
- Comfort troubleshooting on the fly during live sessions with an audience present
- Familiarity with camera operation, basic lighting setups, and standard video/audio recording workflows
- Strong coordination and outreach skills, including comfort reaching out to physicians and other high-profile interview subjects
- Strong organizational skills to manage equipment, cabling, and setup/strike logistics independently
- A calm, solutions-oriented approach under time pressure
- Associate's degree or technical certification in A/V, broadcast technology, or a related field, or equivalent experience
- Ability to stand, kneel, and move for extended periods during setup and strike, and lift/carry up to 60 pounds
- Willingness to travel 6–8 times per year for events, with occasional evenings or weekends around conference schedules
