Job Summary: Assist the Director of Special Education in the supervision of special education staff and in the operation of the K-12 special education program.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

Remain informed of all legal requirements governing special education, gifted education and Chapter 15 service agreements.

Consult with special education teachers on a regular basis in the classroom regarding programming and implementation concerns.

Assist in providing consultation to building principals at all levels in the area of special education programs and services, gifted education and Chapter 15 service agreements.

Conduct formal observations of identified or thought-to-be special education students as part of the multidisciplinary evaluation process.

Assist in observations and evaluations of special education teachers K-12.

Participate in student staff meetings and parent conferences, district staff meetings, and other district level meetings, as required.

Serve as local education agency representative at IEP meetings when the building principal is not available.

Review and approve completed Evaluation Reports, Individual Education Plans, and Notices of

Recommended Education Placements to insure compliance with Pennsylvania State Regulations and Standards.

Assist in conducting in-service training opportunities for special education staff, para-educators, regular education staff, and parents.

Assist in developing and updating special education procedures to insure compliance with state and federal regulations.

Assist secondary special education teachers in formulating and implementing postsecondary transition plans and activities.

Attend informational meetings, such as Intermediate Unit 12 Advisory Council Meetings, outside the school district when requested.

Assist in providing support to instructional assistants and support staff as required. Monitor compliance with yearly staff development.

Perform other related duties or responsibilities as may be assigned by the Director of Special Education.
Qualifications:

A minimum of five (5) years successful special education teaching experience

Master's Degree in Special Education or related field of study from an accredited institution

Appropriate Pennsylvania Certification as a Supervisor of Special Education

Demonstrated skill in communication, organization, collaboration, and leadership
