We are seeking a creative and detail-oriented Fine Art Handler to join our dynamic team. The art handler will support the Galerie d’Orsay staff by ensuring the thorough, precise, and aesthetic installation of works of art both within the gallery and off-site at client residences. They will be responsible for maintaining the artwork inventory in excellent condition and order. The ideal candidate must be able to ensure the safety of artwork during shipping, installation, exhibition, and storage. They should feel comfortable interacting with gallery staff and clients, and be able to perform complex tasks calmly and accurately under the observation of collectors. Strong people skills and common sense are essential.
Qualifications:
- Must be able to lift at least 40-50 lbs. with ease.
- Must have a valid driver’s license.
- Must have prior art handling/installation experience.
- Must be proficient in arithmetic and capable of calculating distances and measurements to ensure precise hanging.
- Must be comfortable interacting with staff and clients on a daily basis.
Preferred:
- A good eye for color, composition, and design.
- An understanding of common wall surface materials, how to recognize them, and which hardware is best suited for each type of wall.
- Ability to improvise effectively.
- Knowledge of lighting techniques.
- Experience touching up and/or repairing frames, canvases, and sculptures.
- Understanding of proper artwork storage.
Pay: From $30.00 per hour
