JOB SUMMARY
The General Manager leads all operations of an upscale, 111-suite hotel. This role is accountable for the property's financial performance, guest satisfaction, associate engagement, sales growth, and market positioning, and provides strategic direction across all departments, including Front Office, Housekeeping, Maintenance, Food and Beverage, Sales, Revenue Management, and Guest Services. experience with: Full-service hotel operations Food & beverage management Banquet/meeting space operations Revenue management Choice Hotels brand standards Strong guest service and team leadership
The General Manager drives revenue and occupancy, improves RevPAR, controls expenses, maintains brand standards, and delivers exceptional guest experiences. The property features 111 suites, an onsite restaurant and bar, and meeting and event space, and serves leisure and business travelers, group business, sports teams, tour groups, and special events. Situated in a strong leisure and business travel market, this position offers the opportunity to lead a high-performing team while driving profitability and long-term growth.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Lead all hotel operations, including Front Office, Housekeeping, Maintenance, Food and Beverage, Sales, and Guest Services.
- Assist guests professionally and courteously; respond to complaints, solicit feedback, and resolve short- and long-term issues to continuously improve guest satisfaction.
- Maintain guest satisfaction scores at or above brand averages.
- Establish departmental goals, monitor action plans, and implement brand standards of service across all departments.
- Maximize revenue by developing and implementing sales and marketing strategies in conjunction with the Sales team.
- Develop outside sales, business development, and community engagement initiatives, and promote the hotel through social media, tourism partnerships, and civic involvement.
- Build relationships with local businesses, tourism organizations, convention and visitor bureaus, sports organizations, and community partners to increase visibility and generate new business.
- Drive occupancy, ADR, RevPAR, market share, and profitability through effective operations, revenue management, sales leadership, and guest experience initiatives.
- Prepare and manage operating and capital budgets and revenue forecasts; review actual results against budget and take corrective action as needed.
- Partner with Revenue Management on pricing, forecasting, inventory management, and market positioning.
- Analyze financial statements, labor costs, operating expenses, and revenue trends to maximize profitability and operational efficiency.
- Maintain proper cash and internal controls to protect company assets, and work with accounting to ensure revenues and expenses are accurately recorded and reported on time.
- Interview, select, onboard, train, coach, recognize, and develop associates.
- Identify future leaders and build succession plans for key positions within the hotel.
- Establish performance expectations and ensure consistent application of company policies and procedures.
- Partner with Human Resources on employee relations, performance management, leave administration, workers' compensation, recruiting, and retention.
- Maintain a professional work environment free from inappropriate or offensive conduct.
- Conduct routine inspections to ensure cleanliness, maintenance, brand compliance, and appearance standards are met.
- Promote and enforce hotel safety and security procedures for guests and associates.
- Keep leadership informed of significant issues, and perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required:
- Ability to provide professional, courteous guest service and maintain a positive attitude in guest situations.
- Strong interpersonal and leadership skills, with the ability to delegate tasks, develop teams, and set performance expectations.
- Strong planning, organizational, and time-management skills, with attention to detail and the ability to multitask and work with minimal supervision.
- Working knowledge of computers, financial reporting, budgeting, and hotel operating systems.
Preferred:
- Associate or bachelor's degree in hospitality management, Business Administration, or a related field.
- 3+ years of hotel or hospitality management, hotel or resort operations, or full-service hotel leadership experience.
- Experience leading multiple departments, including Front Office, Housekeeping, Maintenance, Food and Beverage, Sales, and Revenue Management.
