American Traveler is seeking a clinically skilled RN for an on-site Telephone Triage Call Center role at an academic medical center, requiring prior triage or ambulatory/outpatient call center experience and Epic proficiency.

On-site position at a telephone triage call center within an academic medical center

Handles high-volume inpatient and outpatient telephonic and electronic nursing triage
-
Patient population spans multiple specialties, with float coverage to Allergy, Pulmonary, and Rheumatology Triage (same building)

Uses Epic EMR for documentation, prescription refill processing, appointment scheduling, and patient portal communication

Manages multi-line call systems and multiple electronic platforms simultaneously

Schedule: Days, Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–4:30 PM (5x8-hour shifts)

No weekend requirements

Local candidates (within 75 miles of the facility) are accepted

Active NC or Compact RN license currently in hand

Current BLS certification in hand

Previous triage, ambulatory care/outpatient call center, or academic medical center nursing experience required

Epic EMR experience required

Ability to type a minimum of 40 WPM required

Strong multitasking, critical thinking, organizational, communication, and customer service skills

Ability to work independently while following established clinical protocols and escalating concerns appropriately

One supervisory professional reference from within the past year required for consideration
-
Full SSN and date of birth required for consideration

Independently assesses and triages patient symptoms using approved clinical protocols, nursing judgment, and provider-directed care pathways

Coordinates care with physicians, APPs, residents, fellows, ancillary departments, pharmacies, and external healthcare organizations

Processes prescription refill requests, schedules appointments, diagnostic testing, referrals, and follow-up visits

Provides patient education and reinforces provider care plans to support patient outcomes and satisfaction

Maintains compliance with HIPAA, institutional policies, accreditation standards, and nursing best practices
-
Flu vaccine is required from October 31 through March 31 with no exemptions accepted

Orientations are held bi-weekly
