Construction Material Specialists (CMS) is a fast-growing, full-service building materials supplier based in Grand Rapids, serving West Michigan's residential and commercial construction market. We coordinate, assemble, and deliver complete material packages — framing, trusses, windows, doors, roofing, siding, decking, and more — for builders and contractors across the region.
We're growing, and our sales team needs a strong inside presence to support that growth.
The Role
We're hiring an Inside Sales Representative to be the operational backbone of our sales process. You'll work alongside our outside sales reps to make sure customers are quoted accurately, orders are entered correctly, follow-ups happen on time, and nothing falls through the cracks.
This isn't a passive order-entry job. You'll be on the phone with customers, coordinating with estimating and operations, and proactively managing the details that make or break a customer relationship. You'll report to our Operations Director.
What You'll Do
- Handle inbound calls and inquiries from builders, contractors, and customers
- Support outside sales reps with quotes, pricing, and order entry
- Follow up on open quotes and outstanding customer needs
- Coordinate between customers, estimating, and operations to keep orders moving accurately
- Manage customer communications when outside reps are in the field
- Help onboard new accounts through CMS's New Customer Day process
- Maintain accurate records in CMS's CRM system
- Identify and flag upsell or cross-sell opportunities for outside reps to follow up on
What We're Looking For
Required
- 1+ years of inside sales, customer service, or sales support experience
- Strong communicator — you're comfortable on the phone and in writing, and you don't let things go unanswered
- Highly organized with strong attention to detail — order accuracy matters here
- Ability to juggle multiple customers and tasks without dropping the ball
- Comfortable learning new software
Strong Pluses
- Background in building materials, construction supply, hardware, or a related industry
- Familiarity with residential or commercial construction terminology
- Experience in a fast-paced, order-driven environment
