Overview
We are seeking a passionate and dynamic Director of Family Ministries to lead and nurture the spiritual growth of families within our faith community. This vital role involves developing comprehensive family programs, fostering strong engagement with children, youth, and their families, and supporting the spiritual development of all ages. The ideal candidate will possess a deep commitment to faith-based education, youth engagement, and community outreach, bringing energy and vision to our mission of fostering a loving, supportive environment rooted in religious principles. As a leader in our organization, you will inspire volunteers, coordinate impactful events, and serve as a spiritual guide for families navigating their faith journeys.
Responsibilities
- Ministry Responsibilities of Children’s and Youth Ministries
- Oversee ministry for nursery through elementary ages, ensuring safe, welcoming, and developmentally appropriate environments.
- Prepare or select curriculum for Sunday School or Children’s Church with assistance from the Pastor. Recruit, train, schedule, and support volunteers for children’s programs. Ensure all children’s ministry spaces are prepared, supplied, and compliant with Safe Sanctuaries policies. Provide a consistent, warm presence for children and families on Sunday mornings.
- Work in close coordination with the leaders and members of the various ministry areas
- Enable the ministry teams in their tasks and ensure lay involvement as primary. Lead or coordinate weekly youth gatherings. Typically, on Sundays.
- Build relationships with middle and high school students to foster belonging, spiritual growth, and connection to the church.
- Plan age-appropriate lessons, discussions, and activities that encourage discipleship and service.
- Communicate regularly with youth and parents about schedules, expectations, and upcoming events.
- Encourage youth participation in worship, mission projects, and intergenerational church life.
- Work with staff to facilitate, administrate, organize and encourage ministry opportunities for volunteers.
- Help ensure event details are regularly published on the website, in the bulletin, and in the weekly e-newsletter.
- Work to ensure the adequate publicity of all planned programs, missions, and events for ministries without a staff appointed contact so that the congregation is informed.
- Attend staff meetings, unless excused by the Senior Pastor. Attend meetings with other staff and lay leaders as requested.

- Able to work under the supervision of the church leadership and laity in accordance with the vision that has been established for Lewis Memorial UMC
- Must maintain Safe Sanctuaries certification.
- Must be able to pass a criminal background check.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
- The Director of Family Ministries shall have strong spiritual and theological foundations, prior experience working with children and youth in a church, school, camp, or similar setting, and strong communication skills.
- Continuing Education is expected and encouraged. Funds may be requested for this cause during the budgeting process. Five (5) days per year may be set aside (in consultation with the Senior Pastor) for this use.

Pay: $19,500.00 - $20,000.00 per year
